[I will go with the armor thing, but if the sword can not cut anything then there is no point in having it. The sword will not be leathal sharp, but enough to cleave into somebody, otherwise it is no better then a club ( ... )

Five zombies were completely stunned from the blow, however, the affect varied on many others. As he ran past them three grabbed him, and knocked him down. They then simply kept him in an inpenitrable grapple while bringing him over to their lich lord. They could choose to look for new powers and fight with stragety for the next week to free the new brothers in arms.

Or, they could simply leave them to die. (Except Ill DM an escape with Ian and we can be two different teams battling each other for a good chunk of the story line.)
