Constancy of purpose achieves the impossible

Aug 16, 2010 01:03

Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence.

Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent.

Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.

Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.

Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.

- Calvin Coolidge (1872-1933)

Yeah it does make sense doesn't it?

Of course persistence coupled with those other things is great too! But sometimes people who are too confident in their talent/genius/education put less of an effort to get where they want to, thinking that it weill be enough to open them the right doors.

And don't we all know someone who "could have" been famous/rich/successful but they never got the breaks? the breaks don't come knocking you have to hunt them down. One of my boys is quite successful as a textile designer but they taught him at University ( Goldsmiths College in London) that the work won't come to you just because you were a star at Uni - you have to go and find the work, and starve along the way if that's what it takes. That quote is going into my personal reference list.
