Hello!
This is going to be a very boring post about decorating my new pad. But I am so fucking SUPER excited about it, I have to do this post. Soz!
I love my flat as is, I do, it's a perfect little pearl of a flat. But it needs a personal touch and that's what I'm currently trying to give it.
Tomorrow the inventory guy will be coming by for the last time to take pictures of the recently added items (fridge, kitchen tap, mirror cabinet, door stoppers and sofa bed). This means that after tomorrow night, my flat is mine to decorate! I get to put things on the walls!
Sooo my plan is that I'm going to hang the mirror that was in the kitchen (why? WHY the kitchen?) on a bare piece of wall in the 'hallway' that isn't really a hallway. The last thing I do, which I'm sure most of you do, before I leave the house, is to check myself in the mirror, clothes on, bag over shoulder, and I hate having to cram myself into the tiny bathroom in order to look into the mirror to do that.
Underneath the mirror I'm going to hang four, purple and quite sturdy hooks to hand coats and junk on. They can each take 1kg, that's a coat, right? Not a big winter coat, maybe. I have no idea how much a coat weighs. Anyway, I so need these hooks, I hate putting my coat over the chair when I come home, it needs a home on the wall.
I'm also putting some hooks in the bathroom. I need one for the hand towel (next to the sink, obvs) and then one for the big towel for my hair. I'm thinking that either goes on the inside of the bathroom door or maybe it'll fit in the tiny bit there is between the shower and the sink? I don't know, I'll have to experiment.
Now. In terms of posters in the living room, I've bought three today.
This is going above my sofa bed and it's going to look SO AWESOME:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003LYGEWA/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00 This I think it's going on the wall above my TV:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00577HXEM/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00 This one I just don't know yet because it's a slightly odd size and I might utilise that and hang it underneath the stairs. But then I might not be seen as much and it needs to be because it's god damn beautiful:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007OT6TD2/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i01 I also have four small, colourful postcards I got from IKEA, I think I'm going to stick them in the kitchen somewhere, spice it up a bit out there. And I need something to put on the walls in my bedroom-mezzanine bit. I'm determined to keep that area pure and romantic and lovely (in other words, I'm not putting any fucking Stanley Kubrick space pictures up there, that goes in the living room area), and I was thinking about this:
http://www.ltmuseumshop.co.uk/posters/gallery/product/unframed/poster/kew-by-tram-from-shepherds-bush-daisy-walk-sidney-thomas-charles-weeks-1913.html 10 quid for an A4 size picture is a bit much, though, because I'd need more than one (I was thinking three on the long wall, different pictures in all kinds of beautiful colours and no bigger than A4 'cos otherwise it's going to look overwhelming) but maybe I'm just being a cheapo. Btw, Miss Clarke, I keep thinking of you when I see this:
http://www.urbanoutfitters.co.uk/wander-lust-wall-art/invt/5536400122501/&temp=quickBuyDetailsNew&layout=blank OMG I JUST FOUND THIS!
http://www.ltmuseumshop.co.uk/posters/gallery/product/unframed/poster/i-am-lerline-waiting-for-you-at-the-zoo-unknown-artist-1930.html That's fucking adorable. And now I kinda want this as part of the three A4's but it's hard to match with anything!
http://www.ltmuseumshop.co.uk/posters/gallery/product/unframed/poster/the-zoo-aquarium-f-gregory-brown-1931.html But yeah, three A4 size posters up there. And then I need a poster on the opposite side of the mirror. I was thinking of this:
http://www.allposters.co.uk/-sp/Citizen-Kane-Posters_i8038362_.htm (yes I'm one of those pretentious fucks who actually does think this is one of the best films ever made). But maybe it's too sterile, I don't know, maybe I should have something with just a tad of colour on it. I really want a Tintin poster, I don't know why. I love Tintin, always have, maybe it's 'cos he's all popular now 'cos of that film. Anyway, I'm in love with this:
http://www.allposters.co.uk/-sp/Le-Lotus-Bleu-c-1936-Posters_i2205_.htm But then one of my favourite Tintin comics was this one:
http://www.allposters.co.uk/-sp/On-a-Marche-sur-la-Lune-c-1954-Posters_i2217_.htm But if I hang that one in a room that will also have a 2001 space poster, it's all going to be a bit NASA... so I was thinking of this:
http://www.allposters.co.uk/-sp/Le-Tresor-de-Rackham-Le-Rouge-c-1944-Posters_i2212_.htm But that one you can only get from Allposters (40 quid are they insane?), whereas the other two you can get for 14 quid on Amazon. Christ, I don't know, if you want to let me know what you think, feel free. Could I get away with hanging this?
http://www.urbanoutfitters.co.uk/bookish-desisns-to-kill-a-mockingbird-poster/invt/5536439470005/&bklist= I also have a bit of wall on the other side of stairs (so much white wall to hang shit on, I LOVE IT) but I'm thinking the picture I have of a sailor (framed) should hang there and then in the bit of wall between the windows I have two smaller pictures that could go there (picture of siblings, Samuel Beckett inspired postcard, pretty skylight painting).
Anyway, I also bought a duvet and a pillow set for the sofa bed so my mother (and others, obvs, but she's here this weekend) have something to sleep with. And I bought a big pink storage case to store it all in under the sofa bed. And a larger pink storage case that goes on the mezzanine at the foot of the bed, to stick shoes in when they're not used.
And then Monday I'll be getting this:
http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/10225377/ I think the colour's gonna look good in here and it's gonna hold all the clothes that currently have no home. And on top of it my phone and my iPod speaker are going to live so my dining table can be nice and free of everything but dining table related stuff (tablecloth, candle holders, possibly a bowl for my keys and junk). I bought some white IKEA curtains that are very pretty and light but way too long, so I'm going to have them shortened. I'm thinking of asking the laundrette/cleaning service/alterations place three doors down, hoping they can do it fairly cheaply, otherwise a guy from my work is gonna lend me his dad's sewing machine, which is very nice of him. I'm also going to get some chair covers 'cos the covers that are on now are fucking rank. I think I'll be going with the classic sand colour:
http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/60193699/ Oh and I need cushion covers for the sofa cushions. I have three cushions, one of which is currently dressed in this:
http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/50201652/ (stripes not as shiny as they look)
I'm IN LOVE with this print:
http://www.hm.com/gb/product/98627?article=98627-BBut I'm not sure it goes with the one I have. So maybe that flowery print and two one-colour ones, like, dark green and mustard yellow.
And then, because I love duvet sets, I need a duvet set bought specifically for the mezzanine lair that is my bed 'room'. I'm PISSED off that the double duvet set of this has sold out:
http://www.hm.com/gb/product/99180?article=99180-A (I also wanted the blue version of that - I can't win). Oh well, I guess that means I'm going to *have* to buy this:
http://www.hm.com/gb/product/01544?article=01544-C And plants. And cord holders. And other things.
SO MUCH TO DO AND BUY AND ORGANISE AND I'M SO SO SO EXCITED ABOUT IT! :D
And obviously I'll be taking pictures of EVERYTHING once it's done!
