Promises Kept and Faith Rewarded
by Laura
After eight months of healing and learning, secluded in the Arctic with his biological dad’s consciousness, Clark was returning to Lex. He flew through Metropolis’ night sky, through the rain, clad in primary colors. Clark landed on Lex’s balcony, still getting wet, and knocked on the French windows. He then heard Lex’s heart hammering away, and his footsteps as he walked towards the balcony. Clark’s heart was also beating very fast.
Lex opened the French windows and came outside. “Clark?” he asked. “Yes, Lex. I’m back,” Clark said. “You kept your promise,” Lex said. “Of course I did,” Clark replied, “legends together, Lex, remember?” “Yes, Clark, I most certainly do,” Lex said. They kissed each other on the lips, just once, and very gently. Clark saw Lex shiver; he wrapped his bright red cape around both of them and their hearts finally calmed. They stood quietly for a few minutes. It was still raining, but they’d apparently forgotten about it. “We’re getting wet, Lex. Shall we go inside?” Clark asked. “Yes, Clark. That’s probably wise,” Lex laughed.
They entered the penthouse. Lex closed and locked the doors behind them. Under the lights of the lounge, they could see each other better. Clark let Lex look him over. “Your clothes are certainly bright, Clark,” Lex said, “garish, in fact.” Clark replied, “Hey! This is my heritage, Lex.” He pretended to be angry, and pouted a little. They were bright. Clearly, Kryptonians hadn’t had much fashion sense. Lex clearly saw straight through his pouting, and just rolled his eyes at him.
But then Lex asked, “Heritage?” Clark watched Lex’s expression become serious, and he let Lex examine the uniform properly. With a finger, Lex traced the angles and curves of the red and yellow stylised “S” enclosed within a pentagon which adorned his chest. “What is this, Clark?”, he asked, looking up at Clark. “It’s a revised version of my name, my shield, my coat of arms, the symbol of my Kryptonian house, the House of El,” Clark replied. “El, the Hebrew word for God which means might, strength and power? What an incredible coincidence, Clark. I still hate the color combination, though.” Lex said, smirking. “I’ve been back five minutes and you’re giving me a lesson already!?” Clark exclaimed. “Well, you’re giving me a lesson, too, Clark. What else did you learn?” Lex asked, with a smile. “So much, Lex. The ship built an crystalline structure in the Arctic, and we called it the Fortress of Solitude. It wasn’t cold inside, though. Jor-El told me my Kryptonian name, Kal-El, and my biological mom’s name, Lara. I saw them, Lex. Jor-El taught me about Krypton and started healing me. But I’ll tell you about that another day.” Clark’s thoughts tailed off, and he fell silent.
With that, Lex went back to investigating the uniform. He walked behind Clark, and touched the cape. “What is this made of, Clark? It’s so warm, just like you,” Lex said. “It’s Kryptonian material, Lex. The Fortress made the whole uniform,” Clark replied. The cape also appeared to be semi-sentient and indestructible, but Clark didn’t yet know quite how that worked.
Lex came back to face Clark, and said, “You’re really here,” like he still couldn’t believe it. “I’m really here, Lex. I love you,” Clark replied. “I love you, too, Clark,” Lex said. They kissed again, this time becoming passionate. Separating, they walked to Lex’s bedroom and stripped each other. Lex’s clothes and Clark’s uniform ended up strewn all over the floor. However, the cape landed on the bed. They began kissing again, and the bedroom was soon filled with the sounds of their lovemaking.
After that lovemaking, they discovered the cape was also stain-resistant. They’d made a bit of a mess on it, so Lex took it into the bathroom to rinse it. When he brought it back, Clark saw that it was as good as new. They went to sleep, wrapped in each other’s arms, safe and warm under the remarkable cape.
The following morning, the first thing Lex said to Clark was, ”Just how did you end up on my balcony, Clark?” “I flew, Lex,” Clark replied. “Wow. Cool.” Lex sounded stunned. “Would you take me with you, Clark?” he asked. “Of course, Lex. I’d love to,” Clark said. Then there was more kissing, and the stain-resistance of the cape was soon once again being put to the test.
