Resurrection Shuffle

Being resurrected hurts.
Hearing the vworp-vworp of the TARDIS dematerialising, and being unknowingly abandoned hurts even more.

Something’s...changed within his body. His chest feels strangely warm. But there’s a distinct lack of medical equipment on the Games Station, and his wrist computer is little help.
Nevertheless, Captain Jack Harkness still has the intergalactic surfboard, and he gets himself the hell off the graveyard.
***
Thanks to the Rift, Jack ends up in Cardiff, 1950. Just long enough after the end of the war and just far enough away from London for him to not be noticed.
Jack overhears things in the pub he begins to frequent - monsters, fairies, machines…
They had charged up the TARDIS on the Rift, so he had witnessed first hand just how weird the place was. Hidden away in a dark corner of the pub, Jack pulls the cord bearing the TARDIS key out of his t-shirt. Looking at it, he remembers how happy they’d all been, when they were here, together.
The next day, Jack starts to covertly investigate Cardiff’s particular variety of strange. Whatever else he may feel, he owes the Doctor that much, at least.
And he sees an archaeopteryx, of all things.

Soon enough, he’s sleeping with a doctor, and conning him into bringing home a stethoscope.
Listening to his chest himself, Jack discovers what’s making him so warm. Another heartbeat. And this time, it’s right next to his own, not next to his stomach.
So, it was most likely something Gallifreyan that had resurrected him.
And that something had grown him another heart, possibly changed his species.
What else had it done?
It was definitely someone Gallifreyan who had abandoned him.
Just how he feels about all of that, Jack doesn’t know. He just hopes the TARDIS materialises in Cardiff, or washes up through the Rift at some point, so he can confront the Doctor, and ask him what the hell he'd been playing at.
Of course, that will be followed by kissing both him and Rose senseless at the sheer joy of seeing them again.
Maybe.
In the meantime, Jack’s two hearts keep beating, and he waits.
And hopes.
