Kaylee loves her crewmates.
Sometimes, she loves her ship, just a little bit more.
Frequently, she understands her ship more than she does her crewmates.
Even when she’s torn up, Serenity, just like any other machine or ship, speaks to Kaylee, tells her what she needs to make her work again.
If they have money, and they’re still near a planet, Kaylee goes off to buy the part, installs it and gets her girl going again.
If there’s no money, Kaylee patches Serenity up as best she can, places a kiss on the repair, apologises and hopes for the best.
