Missing In Action
by Laura
Jack remembers how very beautiful he thought the TARDIS was, the first time he saw, heard and felt her.
Green, glowing, sentient, telepathic, loving.
Gods, she was amazing.
He and the Doctor had passed Rose between them, dancing for hours. Then he’d explained the ship to Jack.
“You love her, don’t you?”
“Yeah. Best ship in the universe, my girl.”
He remembers the ship comforting him, he remembers repairing her, comforting her in turn. He even remembers...sleeping with her. That was particularly glorious.
Now, he can see she’s injured, gutted open, red, angry, inflamed.
The Cloister Bell’s ringing mournfully. (Martha gets that bit, saying she “sounds sick.”)
She’s been transformed into what he and the Doctor both know is a paradox machine; he can’t feel her. And if he can’t feel her, how much worse is that lack, for the Doctor?
To see the TARDIS like this...it breaks Jack’s heart.
