Choose Life

As the Doctor, Jack and Martha slowly and carefully repair his beloved ship - bantering, throwing instructions and suggestions around, making use of knowledge of medicine and time - she gradually slips back into their heads.
The more of the paradox machine they remove, and dump outside, for the time being, the greener the TARDIS becomes. They eventually manage to get her Cloister Bell to stop ringing, which is accompanied by sighs all round.
Finally, the TARDIS’ time rotor once again rises and falls. She’s no longer a paradox machine; cannibalised, half-dead. She’s very much alive, and completely in his head, his beautiful ship. Allowing himself a quick swipe at his eyes and a not-so-quick stroke of the console, the Doctor then speaks to his companions.
“Thank you, both of you,” he says, throwing one arm around Martha and clapping Jack on the shoulder with his other hand. Both pairs of eyes look a little damp, but the Doctor doesn’t make any mention of it.
“You’re welcome,” Martha says.
“Yeah,” Jack agrees.
Suddenly, there’s a golden, spinning sensation in his head. Judging by the way the two of them smile, they must be getting the same feeling.
“She’s gonna be just fine, Doctor,” Jack tells him, looking him as much in the eye as he can.
“Yes. Of course she is.”
If only he could say the same for himself.
