Reaching For The Sun

She hadn’t been consumed in fire. She was still alive, he’d saved her.
So when the Doctor held out his hand to her and asked, “D’you wanna come with me?” Jabe of the Forest of Cheem let him take her hand in his, and went.

The ship. So beautiful, so alive. Jabe grew a branch out from her arm, with leaves and seeds, letting it coil around one of the TARDIS’s large coral struts.
The ship’s...response to this action felt much like her own reaction to the air she’d been gifted with, by the Doctor.
“Cross-pollination, Jabe?” he asked, looking up from the ship’s pulsing, glowing console.
“Something certainly akin to that, Doctor,” she replied, briefly closing her eyes, sighing, breathing. “Do you feel...her, too, your TARDIS?” Jabe asked, looking straight at him.
“Always.” He smiled at her. “Where to, then, Jabe of the Forest of Cheem? And when, y’know?”
“Somewhere with sunlight, Doctor.”
“Sure about that?”
She uncoiled the branch, and re-absorbed it. “Yes.” Jabe joined him at the console. "I wish to see the sun...doing its work.”
“Makin’ trees grow?”
“Making trees grow. Show me a living, breathing Earth forest, please, Doctor.”
“One Earth forest, comin’ right up!” He grinned, pressed controls.
As the ship...moved, Jabe couldn’t help but smile back. This would indeed be a grand adventure.
