A beautiful visitor

I've been meaning to post this pic for a year. We get hawks in our yard who hunt the birds who come to our feeders. This fellow showed up last winter, but I lacked the software to edit the jpg. It's really hard to get good pics of them because their eyesight is so amazing, they see movement inside the house and fly off before we can grab the ( Read more... )

Aaah he's so pretty with the feathers all fluffed out! They are very difficult birds to get on any sort of film. lol I've only gotten a few myself. I'm always fascinated by hawks.

I've never seen any except in a zoo until we moved here. It's wonderful to get so close.

It's a completely different thing seeing them in their own world. I'm out in the middle of nowhere so I see them quite often. Most of the times when I don't have my camera handy. Like on my way to work I'll spot one on a fence post maybe a car length away from me! LOL

Wow! He's beautiful! A different breed than I see around here. Besides the Northern Harriers, I've seen Red-tailed Hawks as well. And once I saw a Bald Eagle on a telephone pole! :DDD

I admit I'm glad when their hunt is successful, because I want them to keep coming around, but usually the sparrows and starlings escape.

I can only imagine what the sight of something like that would have done to our cats' minds.
