On the job hunt AGAIN. Not exactly, um, getting along with the management at the current job. There's a real lack of communication there and when the owner/manager does communicate with me (usually only if I've asked a question), he talks down to me, which I simply will not tolerate... not to mention I just can't stand the way they manage the ( Read more... )

thanks! I cried today when I quit, though. Or at least, some tears leaked out. Lame. Girly. TOTALLY NOT WHAT I WAS GOING FOR. My ex-boss is just so damn mean and kept turning everything back around on me and the conversation was frustrating and I've never had to quit a job and I got emotional like a little baby.

But I smiled when I left :)

I've had internships in HR for about three years now and these are the things I've learned:
1) It's REALLY fuckin hard to break in to. It's almost not worth bothering unless you have a degree (in Bus. Admin., HR, or something very similar) or relevant experience. Certification (PHR, SPHR) also helps.
2) HR is like no other field because it really transcends fields. This is good and bad. You can work in any field, in any business, if you're an HR person, because every business needs HR people. BUT most business owners despise HR. They see it as a waste of resources. It's not something you want to go in to unless you're really sure you wanna do it, cause you're going to catch a lot of flack from The Man.
3) The best HR people are not touchy-feely "people-people." They're good with people, yes, but they don't tolerate incompetence and they're 100% business oriented.

HR is a crazy field. Do it if you love it, but otherwise...

huh, interesting. thanks for the inside scoop! I guess I've just had the good fortune of working with some pretty nice, laid-back HR personnel in the past..!

and The Man is a moron for hating HR b/c HR people are obviously crucial to business. My boyfriend's company is about to have a project self-destruct due to lack of HR presence, in fact...
