F1 2008: Malaysian Grand Prix

Well, this race wasn't quite as exciting as the Australian grand prix, but it was still rather entertaining. There were quite a few detours, some good racing, all in all it was quite fun. It's a shame it didn't rain though, that would have really livened things up a bit!

Kimi drove beautifully all day, he deserved his top step, he did a good job. And Robert did amazingly well to hang on so well to the Ferrari's, to be honest I expected them just to drive away out front and leave the rest a long way behind, but Robert didn't let them to it; a richly deserved second. And third for Heikki! Again, he drove a fabulous race and was rewarded for it.

Lewis fought hard after his pit-stop problems, but it wasn't enough to bag a podium. I'm actually quite pleased - he got a fair few points and he's still leading the championship (such as it is after only two races) but he's not storming off in front at a rate which threatens to make the championship uninteresting. It's also nice to see some fresh faces on the podium; given that Heikki is now at McLaren and the BMWs are looking strong again this year, I'm sure it won't be the last time we see them, but last year the podium was so dominated by Lewis, Kimi, Fernando and Felipe that it's nice to have a big of a change.

It was sad to see Felipe retire again :( And after his second pole of the season - what a disappointment. He needs some points, poor boy. I hope he does well next race.

I was so gutted for Nico that he needed a new front wing :( That totally screwed over his race. He drove well and had fast times, but it wasn't enough to place anywhere meaningful. That said, I'm really, really happy that both of the Williams cars finished; they have completed two (very hot) races with those engines, hopefully they will continue to be this reliable throughout the season. McLaren too, they're looking very good. Ferrari certainly can't say the same; how many Ferrari engines blew here and in Oz? I lost count....

Mark Webber had a good day, given how unlucky the poor guy is, I'm always happy when something tragic doesn't happen to him in a race, the fact that he came away with two points is even better! I was sad that DC and Jense didn't place any higher though.

Overall, I thought it was a good race; not the best I've seen, but certainly not the worst. Roll on Bahrain!
