OH GOD, JENSON! JENSON! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
There are not words enough to describe how ecstatic I am with this result. I was just about in tears when he took that chequered flag and I now have the HUGEST grin on my face. He drove fantastically well; he went out there and proved his quality with pole position, an untouchable drive and a solid win. It's been a long time coming and I am so excited for him.
And Rubens. He had a bit of a rocky start but he was solid and consistent and it paid off. I can't believe that Brawn came in one-two. Reborn from a team that was so utterly shit last year and only, finally, reformed a couple of weeks ago; just not being at the back would have been pretty damn good. To come in first and second is truly amazing. They deserved this result, so much. ♥
I was gutted that Nico only finished 7th. After such strong performances in the practices and again in qualifying, I was hoping for good things. And he was fast. He was so racy out there, put in some great overtaking moves and things were looking really good. About 8 laps or so before the end he was ahead of Rubens (what would turn out to be second after Robert and Sebastian were morons). But his car just did not work with those super-soft tyres and he went straight backwards. Effectively 2nd to 7th in about 5 laps. That's shit - Williams need to work on that! So a disappointing finish for him, after the rest of the weekend promised so much, but at least he got a couple of points. And he showed himself to be an excellent driver once again, and the car was looking great without those super-soft tyres, so hopefully things will go upwards from here.
Sebastian and Robert were morons. I was gutted for both of them that they went out because of them drove great races (up until their little incident) and deserved points and podiums (up until their little incident). But they were both a bit stupid!
Jarno did an amazing job to go from the pitlane to third - well deserved by Toyota, I think. As did Lewis to go from the back of the grid to fourth. Buemi did very well in his first race too, I was impressed.
Mostly, though, I am full of glee for the fairytale story of Brawn GP this weekend; this is a victory so richly deserved. And Jenson, oh, Jenson. ♥
If this race is anything to go by, it's going to be one hell of a season. Bring it on!
ETA: Also, how awesome is the BBC coverage! I really like the team they've put together; Martin and Jonathan were a great commentary team, interesting, insightful, and just occasionally they'd be quiet if they had nothing to contribute. A few teething troubles yesterday with them starting sentences at the same time, but today was fine. It was so nice to not be subjected to James Allen's drivel. I really liked Jake Humphreys too, he was a good front man. As for DC and Eddie.... ♥ I love them both so much; I have huge respect for them both, for their opinions and their experience, and I love that they're both so straight-talking, tell-it-like-it-is. Inspired decision to get them to do pit interviews yesterday after quali - no driver or team person is going to refuse them an interview!
Mostly, though, I LOVED that there were no adverts. We didn't miss a second of the racing. And we got the full press conference too, which is something that ITV rarely allowed. Yeah, loving the BBC big time! ♥
