So I have been checking LJ all day long, nothing, no posts, nothing...

Until like 5:00 and then I get this flood of posts that apparently have been made throughout the day according to the time stamps.

It's just a bit annoying since I then need to read and process it all.

Did you try a forced refresh of the page? (F5 (CTRL-F5?) in most browsers) Some ISPs may just cache the page and serve you up the cached page unless you tell them to go out and look for an updated copy.
Somebody up the chain from me at work did that to Dilbert, so I'd always get yesterday's comic until I forced a refresh of the page.

I had that happen to me once, only it was a whole weekend + 1, then i got a reply from brenda saying to refresh my page, I missed a lot!!!!
