I could get used to this free time thing. Yesterday I ruthlessly took 3 bags of stuff to Goodwill, did a ton of laundry and started to put together the frame for the garden. I didn't finish because using the saw kind of frightens me. I'm not actually afraid of the saw, I just wanted someone to hold the wood while I cut. I didn't want to mess up the ( Read more... )

I once saw someone with triplets on a bicycle, one over the front wheel and the others one on either side of the rear wheel.

Wow. That's some ingenuity and determination. Glad I'm not trying to figure that one out.

We have a trailer, and I really like it. I tend to wobble on the bike on my own, so the notion of a seat scared me. Maggie Coulbourn (Travis and Katie's daughter) has a seat on her dad's bike that is between him and the handlebars. Something about its construction didn't work well, though, and Travis ended up having to modify it to go onto his bicycle, so that's something to watch out for. Our trailer is a two-seater, and I find that it's only a little wider than my handlebars, and definitely *not* wider than my zone of comfort when it comes to passing by telephone poles and newspaper stands. I have had the trailer slip off a ramp once, but Iris wears her helmet and is buckled, and the trailer has a roll bar, so when it happened, she just ended up topsy turvy for a moment until I got the trailer righted again ( ... )

One more thing...I LOVE my panniers. Get yourself some for your bike. You'll love them, too. But also get some for Dan's bike (if he's taking up the family cycling expeditions with you), or get some conveyance for Dan's bike that can take Alex, otherwise you'll end up like me, lugging 30 lbs of child plus 50 lbs of groceries (that's what it feels like, at any rate!) on your weekly outing to the store.

I have to admit that I googled "panniers" because I had no idea what you were talking about! But now that I know it is a very cool word for "saddlebags," I agree that they look very useful, and I will have to call them "panniers" when I get some.

Crap. Both of those anonymous posts were me, Sally. I guess that might be obvious, but I hate when I don't sign in first.
