Genre: humor, crack, and a little romance
Rating: pg
Word Count: 1,758
Disclaimer: Wouldn't resort to fanfics if I owned them, I'd be otherwise engaged
Summary: The truth behind Jay's reluctance to engage in skinship and what Nichkhun is really like behind his innocent image. (Nichkhun somehow manage to hijack the ending, he truly is devious).
A/N: Inspired by a recent fancam of Jaebum grabbing Taec's butt on stage during a live performance. The idea hit me suddenly and this was written in a couple of hours - when I should have been studying.
A/N2: This is my first fanfic posting, feel free to constructively criticize
A/N3: I am still new to 2PM fandom so please excuse any jarring discrepancies
Everyone thinks that Jay is a homophobe.
He shies away from skinship and fan service. Is it his American upbringing that makes it hard for him to accept this aspect of the job? Some seem to think so. Is it that Jay is so focused on getting girls that he is not willing to send the wrong message? There are a few who seem to think of Jay as a bit of a flirt - or at least tries to be. None of these are the truth however. This truth to Jay is far more embarrassing and in reality rather crippling, so Jay prefers to let people think what they will, even his band mates. The other members figure ‘that’s just Jay’ and hope he warms up to the idea of more skinship - even if it’s not for fan service purposes. They are becoming more and more like blood brothers everyday and hugs of encouragement and comfort from their leader would be greatly appreciated.
You see, Jay’s real problem is not homophobia but an extreme fear of cooties. He may be the eldest and their fearless leader, but goddammit keep your germs to yourself. Jay has always been one for respecting others’ personal space and he would like the same in return. However; the members, management, and the fans are asking him to do things that set the germaphobe alarms off in his head and he panics and pulls away, pushes the others away and does his best to distance himself. He sees the hurt eyes behind the forced smiles as his band mates try to brush off his brush off but he just can seem to help it - and all the cameras and fans watching him trying not to freak out doesn’t do him any good. What is poor leader Jay to do? He must admit that as the months go by and he and the rest of 2pm are working crammed schedules with really only each other as company he is slowly warming up to the idea of expressing his appreciation for hard work and his general affections for the others in a physical manner. Warming up to the idea, but not acting on it.
As Jay takes a break from dance practice he scans the room. Junsu was off doing a voice warm-up instead of practicing the new routine when he really should be working on his steps. Nichkhun had recently wandered off to join in the conversation Junho, Wooyoung and Chansung are having. Taecyeon, the only member actually focused on what they were here for was busy on the dance floor. At least Jay could always count on Taec. As he observes his members the issue of his phobia and skinship bounces around in his head once again. A person can only say ‘good job’ so many times and give a firm yet gentle pat on the back or shoulder before the act seems cold and overly rehearsed. Jay didn’t want the members to think he didn’t care or worse; that he didn’t even like them.
Taking a determined swig of water, Jay mentally nodded to himself. Alright Jay you can do this. You are their respected leader, you are top at dance, you have killer abs and cooties have no power over you anymore! If only Jay’s mantra could inspire a little more courage in him and that’s when it happens. Junho, Wooyoung and Chansung are goofing around and go charging into Taec and that poor gentle giant doesn’t stand a chance. The combined impact of three idiots sends the innocent Taec flying, and as he is about to complete a spectacular 10 point worthy face plant leader Jay comes to the rescue resulting in an awfully sweaty Taec (from all the dancing) sprawled across a rather irked Jay.
The room goes still as the other five members watch as Jay continues to hold a winded and confused Taec in his arms, making absolutely no effort to discontinue the physical contact. In fact, Jay shifts, making their position on the floor more comfortable while also allowing Jay to inspect the younger, though larger, member for any injuries. Taec looks up at Jay with ‘kicked puppy’ eyes, fearing a scolding for his proximity as the leader scans him but it never comes and the tension in his face dissolves. Jay’s embrace tightens for a moment giving him an assuring squeeze.
Everyone is stunned - except for Nichkhun who is sporting the biggest, stupid, knowing grin. He figured it would only be a matter of time before Jay’s feelings would come out and he couldn’t be happier for Taecyeon. Khun of course is most happy for himself, secret keeping is so tedious. Meanwhile Junsu is holding back his laughter because the singer thinks that all this is seriously hilarious, especially the beating from the leader that is coming for the three idiots. Those three idiots are holding their breaths- they made the leader have to hold another man in a compromising manner. They are never going to see the light of day again. Taec, though thoroughly shocked from both the impact and the leader’s subsequent rescue, is in pure bliss, basking in the warm albeit slightly sweaty comfort of Jay’s strong arms. He does his best to keep his sigh of content in his thoughts. On the other hand, he is dreading the look on Khun’s face and the teasing that will most likely follow later tonight in their dorm as the Thai man was the only one who knew how he felt about the leader. That’s what he gets for mumbling in English. Taec makes a mental note to learn another language so this never happens again- French perhaps.
On the other end of what now resembles light cuddling, Jay is having a mental breakdown: Oh dear god. His sweat is mixing with my sweat. Why does this feel all tingly - this is different? God damn it Junho, Wooyoung and Chansung when I get up I - why am I not getting up? I seem to be slightly paralyzed. Interesting. Did he use my shampoo? That distinctly smells like my shampoo. Yummy. Did I just think that he smells yummy? I think I am the girl in this relationship. Aish what relationship! Why aren’t I letting go? Because I don’t want to. Sure I like Taec, I know that, Khun even knows that, but why am I still touching him? Where is that feeling of germs seeping into my skin? Taec is different. Feels different, especially this time. My heart is still racing, when did it start? Thank god he is not hurt, if he had been…what if he had been. God damn Khun, wipe that smile of your face or they’ll know. How long have we been like this? It’s really not so bad. I should try this more often, in less hazardous situations.
“Are you okay?” he pauses as he reaches to cup Taec’s face with one hand under the guise of further inspection. “Hurt anywhere?”
I think my heart is about to burst. “No.” Then realizing that his answer is not clear enough, judging from the look on his leader’s face he continues. “Just a little rattled.” To my core.
“Good.” Good? Was that the best he could do? That’s not how a leader should act, that’s not how a Jay should act to a Taec. “I’m glad, relieved,” he gives another squeeze, hoping to convey all of his feelings to the other man. This would be a lot easier if the five dummies watching them, well, weren’t watching them. Jay is not ready to confess just yet, especially not knowing how the other feels, but letting him know he does care is a start.
“Me too.” Glad that is. Never let go.
The dialogue seems to help the tension in the room lift and Nichkhun can’t take the heartwarming scene in front of him any longer and scoots over to help the lanky giant out of the not-giant leader’s arms.
“Everyone all better now?” Nichkhun internally snickered at his own clever double meaning. The two men sprawled on the floor responded with two intense glares and Khun made a mental note to watch his back later tonight. He pulled Taec up, who reluctantly accepted his hand. The two then helped up a rather squashed Jay.
“Thanks guys,” Jay said looking at Taecyeon. He was taking a moment to ingrain the man’s face into his brain, he was going to be entering battle and he wasn’t sure if he’d come back alive. He then turned his attention to the three idiots that caused all this - even if they cured him of his cooties phobia by endangering the man he was head over heels for - they were responsible for being irresponsible and almost seriously injuring a fellow band mate.
“YOU. IDIOTS. HERE. NOW.” The three addressed men ponder over the leaders rather angered request and decided that the best response was to run the other direction, as fast as they could, each man for himself. And that was what happened. Jay went after them one by one, the odds being better for him in the end (especially when in need of impressing a certain band member) and successfully cornered and head locked each of his three rowdy dongsaengs. Jay then returned to Taec’s side on the dance floor as the two picked up where they had left off - in their routine. Cootyphobia was definitely in the past and only giant fangirling awaited him in the future.
Junho, Wooyoung, and Chansung were in a corner nursing sore necks and throbbing heads. Junsu was having a great time pointing and laughing at them and Nichkhun was patting himself on the back for having sparked the conversation that lead his three band mates into goofy off and thus colliding into Taecyeon and awakening a primal urge in Jaebum to be the man’s hero. Nichkhun was really just too proud of what he had accomplished. Taec and Jay were nicely on their way to becoming a couple, Jay was also over whatever touching phobia he had and those three idiots got what they deserved for eating all the rice this morning. Now that he was done causing mischief as well as playing cupid, Khun felt a little empty inside as is often experienced with the completion of projects. Surveying the room he realized there was one life he had yet to touch today, Junsu’s. A naughty little grin danced across his face. Hmmmm, now what should he do next?
