Death Watch

You know, it's hard to wait for a loved one to die. My Grandmother has been on hospice care for the last almost 2 weeks. She's only awake for 30 mins at a time and that's only about every 6-8 hours now. She is "comfortable" but very emotional, feeling she's being a burden to the family members that are taking care of her. We just want her at ( Read more... )

I was lucky enough not to have to be one of the "watchers" with either of my grandmothers, one who deteriorated from a series of strokes, one from cancer. Even being in the "second rank" (i.e. those stuck waiting for That Phone Call) is brutal on the heart.

I hope you and your family are able to find comfort in one another, joys in your fond remembrances of your grandmother's life, and peace within yourselves during this difficult time.

Having Mom's parents be back home out of state has been the hard part. Luckily her sister is still there and has been doing a wonderful job with the loss of first Grandfather 2 years ago and now Grandma. But the wait is indeed very hard. Emotional stress is so physically draining.
