Iraq = WWII?

I read this article in the NY Times about our current president comparing World War II to the war in Iraq. This kind of bothers me in ways. Though any understanding of war is politically charged/culturally biased, I just don't see how you can compare the two. I think in many ways it might even be kind of insulting. Absolutely, utterly incomparable.

WWII was a struggle against a militarized nation with a powerful army that posed a real threat.

The Iraq War is a military sinkhole against a nebulous enemy that isn't in the same place in the world as where we're supposedly fighting them. This is not, by any stretch of the imagination, a World War.
