i get up in the morning 'bout six a.m.
have a little jelly, have a little jam
take a piece of bread, put in the slot
push down the lever, and the wires get hot -

YEAH, TOAST!!!!
I love that song.
Update on life in general:
Lost about .5 pounds this past week due to my Anniversary splurging with A.M. and lack of gym-related activities (okay, three days this week apparently counteracted two pasta restaurants, three brownies, and a homemade alfredo lasagne - DAMN my pasta is good). I need to take some pictures for the "before" effect some time soon. I've been kinda lazy about that.
A.M. and I stopped by a rental property yesterday that is going to be $600/month. It's a three bedroom house in a quiet little neighborhood. Most of our neighbors would be hispanic, and kids and dogs seem to be at a minimum. The house in question has one big master bedroom with an attached 1/2 bath. The kitchen is freakin' huge with plenty of counter space and room for a chest freezer. The two smaller bedrooms are about the size of (or slightly smaller than) our current second bedroom. There is an unfinished but clean two-room basement with TONS of space for storage. They left behind a christmas tree (hey! save money where you can, right?), and the living room is a decent size. Large backyard with clothesline, two entrances and two driveways for the house (it's a corner lot). Siding is old, and the storm windows are metal, and the owner is willing to sell to us for about $65K if we decide we like the place and want to buy it.
The $600/mo + utilities scared me, even though we both loved the place. I drew up an Excel spreadsheet today and determined that with current bills and current pay rates, we'd have about $500 left per month after meds, gas and minimal groceries ($280/mo) are taken care of. Thing is, that $500/mo will get better over the course of the year, because we both have current debts that will be paid over the course of the year. So now I know that things will be tight, but workable. We'll be seeing the property manager on Wednesday to fill out an application and do other bits of paperwork.
To help finance this, I've contacted my temp agency today and asked them how I go about asking for a raise, considering I've worked here a year. Let's hope that goes well, too.
