If you were filling out a questionnaire and it asked for your gender (and you knew that thousands of others were also filling out this questionnaire), what list of options would you want to see? Assume that this is a forced choice question (radio buttons).

Edit: check out the explanation, along with more questions, here. And thanks!

Yeah, seriously. Unfortunately, in this case I totally do care -- or at least, my customers will care -- and all I can do is ask the best questions possible. See here for more info: http://laurenhat.livejournal.com/214845.html

I guess it would depend on what kind of survey it was. If it was medically related or something that would eventually involve a strict division physically (I guess this would be the original "sex" definition of the word), I guess I'd expect to see Male and Female, perhaps with Other/Decline to Answer as a third option ( ... )

*grin* Well, I didn't give enough info. Thanks for all the thoughtful input. For the specific context, see next entry:

I'd go for male/female/other/decline to answer.
I'd know I was lumping a lot of people into the 'other' category, and I don't like the word, but if you *have* to have this question....
