That is such a neat little spot, especially considering its relation to a major city. I wish there was something like that (or at least something I knew about!) in Pittsburgh!
It's totally amazing. I'm so glad we were introduced to the park. I had all but forgotten about it in this last year of living here again, and now that I've re-accquainted myself with it, I'm so excited to be going back there. Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny and 78. I'm taking the afternoon off and likely heading there with a nalgene full of iced tea and a good book.
Seriously? We've never taken you? How is that even possible. We'll definitely go. It's a great picnic spot... I predict, if the weather is nice, a stop at Lund's for good snacks and then a jaunt over to the park. Yep, it's decided.
I never did go to the Barbary Fig after someone (you or Rebecca, probably!) recommended it a couple years ago. On one of those occasions when my brother (who lives in Minneapolis) is aching to babysit, I should definitely check it out.
My brother, incidentally, is now living on Aldrich, just off the Frankling/Lyndale intersection, so I'll have to check out Lowry Park during this prospective excursion, too!
I remember one of us suggesting it to you for Cullen's or your brother's birthday or something like that. Definitely go when you get the chance - I know you'll like it. Hell - call me and I'll come join you! Does Stuart not do well at restaurants? There were lots of babies on the patio while we were eating last night.
And the park is a definite must. Fun place for baby portraits. ;)
Oh, no -- he does really well almost anywhere in public. I just noticed that the consensus among patron reviews is that the restaurant isn't "kid friendly." But that probably refers to the fact that there aren't chicken strips and grilled cheese sandwiches on the menu, or specific diversions for children. I just hesitate to bring him anywhere that he'd be seen as "unwelcome." Right now, he's at a good, portable age: he can't move too far on his own and is very easily entertained :)
I saw that not kid-friendly bit too, but there were several babies and a few kids there too. It's just not, as you wisely assessed, an Applebee's kind of menu. I don't see any reason why you would have trouble with him there. In the summer, all seating is outside (no a/c indoors), so it's especially easy to tote little ones along.
