07. Song that reminds you of HP

I've eliminated the list of meme topics (for today) because this entry might go on a bit....

07. Song that reminds you of HP

Okay, so it's just impossible for me to pick *one* song that makes me think of HP. Instead, I have to pick one entire band - Snow Patrol. There are so many of their songs which make me think of characters, moments, or overall themes from the HP series that it's kind of ridiculous. They are, hands down, what I listen to when I am working on writing fanfic and I can tell you which of my fics were inspired (at least in part) by which of their songs. They particularly hit a chord (no pun intended) for me with Ron and Hermione, and to myself I sometimes think of them as R/Hr's "personal" band. :D

I also find that Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova's work as The Swell Season feel like George/Luna to me and I usually listen to them when writing that pairing. Though Snow Patrol has recently gained a slight foothold there as well, with their songs "The Planets Bend Between Us" and "Set Down Your Glass", the second of which makes me think of where George might be mentally after the war and how Luna might help him through it.

Below, a small sampling of my absolute favorites, with handy links since I can't embed YouTube directly!! :D

"Hands Open" from 2006's Eyes Open - The ultimate Ron/Hermione bickering theme song.

It's hard to argue when
you won't stop making sense
But my tongue still misbehaves and it
keeps digging my own grave with my

Hands open, and my eyes open
I just keep hoping
That your heart opens

Why would I sabotage
the best thing that I have
Well, it makes it easier to know
exactly what I want with my...

Hands open and my eyes open
I just keep hoping
that your heart opens...

"It's Beginning to Get to Me" also off Eyes Open - Makes me think of Ron leaving in DH, particularly this bit:

It's so thrilling but also wrong
Don't have to prove that you are so strong
'Cause I can carry you on my back
After our enemies attack

I tried to tell you before I left
But I was screaming under my breath
You are the only thing that makes sense
Just ignore all this present tense.

"Signal Fire" from the Spiderman 3 Soundtrack (hence the theme of the video) - Makes me think of R/Hr during and after the Final Battle (bonus - the video features an ickle ginger kid!):

In the confusion and the aftermath,
You are my signal fire.
The only resolution and the only joy,
Is the faint spark of forgiveness in your eyes.

Others that make me think of R/Hr are: "Open Your Eyes"; off of Eyes Open - makes me think of them escaping Malfoy Manor; and certain sections of "Spitting Games"; and "Chocolate"; off of Final Straw as well as the middle section of "The Lightning Strike" from A Hundred Million Suns. "Just Say Yes" from Up to Now feels to me like where I hope R/Hr are with their proto-relationship at the end of DH.

Now, just a couple from The Swell Season for George and Luna. It's a very different flavor than Snow Patrol:

"The Moon" - This is from their self-titled album and, um, the allusions are rather obvious...moon/Luna, but I really like the vibe of this for them.

"Alone Apart" - Also off their self-titled album. Very evocative and haunting. Sorry that this video isn't the best...it's harder to find good videos of their stuff.

And, also "This Low" - Off their self-titled album as well. This one actually makes me think of Fred and George and their sibling relationship, particularly "We made a choice and we knew we would pay/For stealing the joy and trying to escape..."

And lastly, but not leastly, back to Snow Patrol for one more song, which, while not my favorite of the band's work, makes me really think of HP overall rather than a specific 'ship - it tells a real story in the song, and I will be *highly* surprised if fanvids using this to underscore the Final Battle and Harry's walk into the forest don't crop up once all of the DH movie is released. Herewith: "Run"

If you've listened to any/all of the songs, I hope you've enjoyed them...and I hope I haven't rattled on too long. I promise tomorrow's will be shorter!!
