In contrast to yesterday's magnum opus, today's meme entry is really going to be rather brief because I think that there are only two ships that truly fall under the heading of "favorite" for me. There are many ships I really like and enjoy reading - Harry/Ginny, Molly/Arthur, Draco/Asteria, Seamus/Lavender, etc. - but only two that I absolutely love and will *always* seek out to read.
In terms of favorite canon ship, my OTP is, has always been, and always will be Ron/Hermione. They were the reason I got so deeply into this fandom (and fanfic, which I will discuss more tomorrow), and I don't even really want to get started on a list of reasons why I love them so much because I'm afraid I'd not stop for a long, loooong time. They are, quite simply, superb in every way, even in their faults and flaws. Love them.
My icon tips you off to my other favorite pairing - my fanon OTP. George/Luna is what I *wish* had happened. I've never really been able to make my peace with the "interview canon" statements regarding George/Angelina and Luna/Rolf. I'd always thought that Luna would have been a good counterbalance to George - they're both unusual, but he in a boisterous and outgoing way and she in a calmer, more reflective one. And then, when we found out what happened to Fred, I thought she would have been the perfect person to help bring George out of the dark place he undoubtedly was in. She was close to his family (without being Fred's erstwhile girlfriend), she knew what it was like to lose a family member she was incredibly close to, and she was "out there" enough to "get" him and the way he'd look at the world on an intrinsic level.
The only problem I really have with some portrayals of George/Luna in fanon is that she often is depicted as utterly kooky just for the *sake* of kookiness, and in my opinion (and it's *just* mine, of course), she's not just weird for no reason. Her "voice" is incredibly hard to nail, but my take on her has always been that she's really several thoughts ahead of most people, and so perhaps she only shares every third or fourth one - which makes her seem nonsensical. She's also someone who believes passionately and fully in the things that she finds important - she just happens to find odd animals important. I was lucky to read some wonderful George/Luna fic when I first fell in love with the pairing, "Love and Levity" and the beautiful/heartbreaking/devastating/uplifting "The Prodigal" by Ozma to name just two. I highly recommend these and anything featuring this pairing by LadyTory as well. A good source for anyone wanting to dabble in this pairing is the
