Okay, first off, I promise to *try* not to write novel-length answers to these things, particularly as I'm answering 4 in one go. Forthwith, days 9 - 12:
09. Fanfiction: discuss
Ah, fanfic. Without it, I likely wouldn't be participating in this meme right now, and I certainly would have experienced the fandom differently. While my love of the books and films pre-dated my intro to fanfic, once I discovered the archives of CM, TQP, SU and the vast expanse of LJ, I was hooked. I think I was introduced to it as some of my fellow flisters were, via the Mugglenet archive, and I quickly discovered CM after that. I remember working on my thesis and needing a "break," so I started reading something called "The Price of Love." 80 chapters and about 8 hours later, I was exhausted, elated, and thankful that I didn't have class the next day. I read voraciously, and after awhile had run through all the Ron/Hermione and Harry/Ginny and other major pairings that I could find...so I finally succumbed and started writing my own. From there it was a hop, skip, and a jump to joining the wonderful and (sadly) defunct RPG Hallowed Ground, and then another couple of RPGs after that.
This spring/summer was probably my most productive fic period - I realized that in the last seven months or so I completed roughly 20 drabbles (for two different LDWS competitions), 75 RPG threads, and four full length fics (that combined for about 20 K words), and co-modded a fic fest. When my current fic is finally turned in, I will be without some sort of fic deadline for the first time in about 10 months, and it feels odd, yet, if I'm honest, liberating. I really enjoy writing fic, though I definitely see it as an escape from the pressures of my crazy daily job, and I've enjoyed every fest I've ever been in, but I am looking forward to getting back to writing it sans deadline. I'd like to go back and finish my prompt table for
rarepair_shorts for George/Luna, and hope to do that soon-ish, but whenever the muse moves me.
10. Favorite book moment(s)
Oh gees...too many to mention, really. But a couple that leap to mind in the moment (in no particular order) are:
-Harry getting Hedwig
-The climax of Prisoner of Azkaban from the Shrieking Shack onwards
-Snape's death scene (not him dying, but the moment when he asks to look into Harry's eyes - the sheer drama of the moment is huge)
-The Prince's Tale
-Ron and Hermione *finally* snog!
-Ron kills the locket
-Parvati having to "steer" Harry round the dance floor at the Yule Ball (it always struck me as sweet and funny)
-Mr. Weasley wanting to know about how the Anglia flew and trying to hide his enthusiasm from Mrs. Weasley
-Lupin teaching them about Boggarts
-Harry and Luna's adventure to Ravenclaw Tower in DH
-McGonagall fighting in the Final Battle with transfigured desks
-Neville fighting in the Final Battle with mandrakes
-The Yule Ball Row
-Ron being sweet to Hermione pre-wedding and glaring at Harry for having no tact
-Hermione telling Ron she'd be packing his underpants
-"How do you feel Georgie?" "Saintlike."
-Harry thinking Ron and Hermione had fallen asleep holding hands
-Emotional range of a teaspoon
-The final moments between Harry and Voldy, particularly:
-"Try...try for some remorse..."
11. Character you're crushing on
Hah. Ron, always. :D But, also just a bit of George, though that has as much to do with fanon George as it does canon George.
12. Favorite movie scene
Okay...this one might be a *bit* of a controversial answer, but here goes. First let me say that I really love so much of all of the films for different reasons, but the very first thing that sprang to my mind when this question came up was the moment post-canaries in Half Blood Prince when Hermione asks Harry what it feels like when he sees Dean with Ginny, and Harry says "It feels like this." Now, I'm generally no fan of the Kloves-ian impulse to put Harry and Hermione in scenes together...BUT! I pick this for a few reasons - 1) it is a moment that is purely from the movie and not the book 2) I think that Dan and Emma really played it well and it was kind of heartbreaking and 3) The cinematography of the next sequence, rolling up the tower to see Ron and Lavender in another window and then Draco at the top was just so well done.
To be honest, there were several moments I could have picked to answer this last one, many more canonically true than this, but I decided I'd go with my gut's first response here.
