The thing I've come to discover about university is that everyone is passionate about something. I mean it. Whether it be their degrees, sustainability, affordable housing, homelessness, etc., you can find it anywhere on campus. And it's got me feeling a little on the outside. I mean, I've never really been passionate about anything.
Don't get me wrong. I've got my opinions about things, who doesn't? I've just never had the umph to really do much about it. There's only one thing I've ever come close to getting involved in, which the fight against HIV and AIDS. Okay. I'll admit it: Rent was a big part of starting that for me. It's been a half-assed, almost superficial involvement ... I make sure to wear red and donate on December 1, I bought some Product(Red) Converse. I think, though, I've finally got the umph to really try and do something about it, though.
For those who may or may not know, I work at a Starbucks here in Calgary. Fantastic job, really, I think. I have a blast going to work and not to mention how much money I'm saving on drinks. Tonight I found out that not only is Starbucks going to try and reduce waste by having all hot partner beverages in traveler mugs, but we're partnering up with Product(Red). How totally fantastic is that? $0.05 from every holiday beverage sold will go to Product(Red), and after the holidays we'll continue our multi-year partnership. Hopefully this is the kick I need. :)
Secondly, I am hereby making it public (so you guys can kick my ass into gear when I start slacking) that I am getting back on the Healthy Living Bangwagon. I've been very good at making all of my Starbucks drinks nonfat. This will be a bitch during holiday season, but, well, that's life. I went for a little jog and realized it's not so bad, and I can probably manage at least a small jog every morning. REMIND ME TO GO TO THE GYM WHEN I DON'T HAVE WORK OKAY?
