According to Bacon, science has thus far been based too heavily on the perceptions of humans. People decide on fact from their own minds. Ideas were discussed, and conclusive answers to those questions decided upon with no concrete fact to back up those answers. What was being used to reason about with science was opinions.
Bacon says that if experience and observation were implicated than there would be facts to reason about instead of opinions. He says that people must "renounce their notions and begin to form an acquaintance with things....the next step is to destroy the authority of the senses and understanding, whilst we invent and supply them with assistance."
