Lavender pressed her nose against the window, cradling her books against her chest. The rain was coming down in sheets. Classes were over, yet she couldn’t go outside as planned.
She’d told Michael Corner that she would meet him by a certain tree for a picnic. They were only friends; Lavender was sure that he was only doing it because he had no other plans. Still, there was no harm in hoping, was there?
As she made to turn from the castle window, something outside caught her eye. Michael stood beneath a tree, a sodden wicker basket resting beside him.
