Returning to work was the first normal thing Lavender had done in weeks. That morning she had felt anxious as she got herself ready but forced herself out the door. When Lavender knocked, there was a small commotion from inside. Something very obviously fell over, though nothing shattered. There were a couple muffled voices than the sound of feet pounding on hard wood floors.

When the door flew open, Roger was already saying "Remember the rule! We don't answer without checking who it is first!"

"Lily! Hey there," she said, doing her best to match her smile and not look as surprised as she felt. She held up the bag of food, not really knowing what else to say. "I brought dinner!"

"Lily Davies!" Roger yelled as he rounded the doorway from the kitchen.

"It's okay! It's just Lavender! See?" Lily pointed as if that were completely necessary and Roger couldn't see without the direction.

Roger shook his head but settled a hand in Lily's hair. "I see." He stopped looking so ridiculously fond at Lily and looked up to smile at Lavender. "Hey. Did I know you were coming?" He didn't think so, but sometimes he got his wires crossed, especially when he was gearing up to head out of town for a match again soon.

She was completely torn between running back down the hall and trying to find her place in this little picture-esq family moment. Her heart skipped a little as she watched Roger with his daughter. It was like watching a movie - it didn't feel completely real.

"No, sorry - you weren't," she said awkwardly, scratching at the back of her head with her free arm. Lavender forced a smile. "I thought I would surprise you but I didn't mean to-"
