He'd missed having Lavender there, though. She wasn't coming to all the practices anymore, but she was still there more often than not by the end. Roger was way too spoiled from it.
When he came home, in a really good mood when he'd been up so early, Roger was getting ready to hear about whatever Lavender had been doing all day.
"Hey!" He called, closing the door behind him. As h turned back around, he realized it looked like streamers had exploded throughout the living room, and it smelled of cake and goodness. "Are we having a - " Except then he took in the rest of the room. Most notably, Lavender curled up on the sofa looking miserable.
"Merlin, are you okay?" He was across the room in an instant.

When Roger finally did come home, maybe five minutes after the article or an hour she didn't know, Lavender looked up at him with glassy eyes and stained cheeks. That stupid smile hit her like a slap in the face and she hated how adorable he looked.
"Don't-" she started, wiping at her face now with her newly bare left hand as she tried to catch her breath.
Lavender actually managed to herself to her feet and backed away from him.
"You're fucking ridiculous."

Roger's eyes were narrowed in confusion as he watched her. It took a moment too long for him to put any pieces together - which did next to nothing to give him any context for why she looked so devastated. She was crying, her ring was missing, he was apparently ridiculous. These things wouldn't connect for him.
"Usually you like when I'm ridiculous." She never sounded like that when she called him such, though. "Where's your ring?"

Her mouth had gone completely dry, a lump growing in her throat and her words were trapped.
Instead of telling him, Lavender pointed to the coffee table towards her rings and the magazine article. She fell back against the wall and pressed hands to her chest as if that would keep her heart from falling out right there on the living room floor.
