Closed; I Need My BFF

Normally Lavender wouldn't be barging into Hogwarts Castle in search of Marlow in the middle of the week, or at all really. Her best friend left the castle often enough for them to schedule meet ups at their favorite restaurants and cafes to avoid these mid-week intrusions. But a lot had been happening since the surprise wedding reception (and to ( Read more... )

It had been a hell of a few weeks, Marlow's mind racing in a million different directions. Her run-in with Zacharias had managed to at least put a jolt back into her step, Marlow feeling a little bit more like herself than she had been. But she was still weary, still a little slow-moving.

And suddenly she had some very unnecessary thoughts running through her head about two very unnecessary distractions.

But that was neither here nor there.

Tuesday afternoons were her free periods, Marlow taking the time to work on grading papers and working on class assignments. When the knock came at the door, one very familiar to her ears, she rose from her desk, an already worried expression on her face as she answered the heavy wooden door.

"Lav? What's the matter?"

Lavender felt instantly relieved the moment Marlow opened the door, her pretty little fairy like face a sight for very sore eyes. They had gone much longer between seeing each other in the past but life hadn't been so emotionally traumatizing then-

"Life," she groaned, pouting as she let her weight drop to lean against the doorframe in a dramatic and pathetic manner.

"But right now? Did you you see the latest Witch Weekly?"

That magazine was going to ruin her life.

She took a step back, frowning as she looked her best friend over. This was not how she expected her to look following a honeymoon in the south of Italy. She looked exhausted and a little sad. This threw Marlow for a complete loop.

"Get in here-" she said, moving so Lavender could come inside her office.

She shut the door behind her, making sure no students were in the vicinity before turning back to Lavender.

"I cancelled my subscription-" she told her, wrinkling her nose, not bothering to mention how little she liked to read about all the gossip surrounding her life. "What happened?"

"Luck for you I have a copy," she told her sarcastically, shrugging off her coat the moment she stepped into the expansive suite. The room was cozy, reminding her of the Gryffindor common room right down to the warmth of the glowing fire.

Lavender pulled out her copy, the article bookmarked because she had a habit of torturing herself over this sort of thing, and held it out for Marlow to see herself.

"Tell me what this looks like to you."
