The heat of the Florida sun beats down on Candice as she lays out across the beach chair. A cool breeze rolls in across the Atlantic Ocean and she can’t help but breathe in deep, letting the familiar scents of sand and salt water bring her back to childhood memories of sandcastles and searching for sea shells. Miami isn’t home, but it’s close.

Squinting beneath her sunglasses, she catches sight of Nina splashing in the waves, her face contorted in laughter and mirth. Nina’s from about as far away from here as you can get, and Candice can’t help feel a little proud at the way she fits here. Nina fits everywhere. It’s one of the things she admires most about her.

When Nina jogs up the shore, adjusting her bikini and shaking her hair out, Candice can’t do anything but smile. “Having fun?”

“Oh, I love Miami.” Laying down on her beach blanket, Nina slips on her sunglasses. “You’re no fun at all. Just gonna lay there?”

“We used to go to the beach all the time when I was a kid,” she said, shrugging. “It’s not such a big deal.”

Nina rolls her eyes. “We’re on vacation. And I know you’re not old enough yet to just want to be one of those people who sits and does nothing.”

Sticking her tongue out at her, Candice pulled two bottles of Mike’s Hard Lemonade out of the cooler. “Fine, whippersnapper, next time you can buy the booze.”

Her giggle is contagious and Nina drinks like someone still reveling in the fact that she’s legal. She drains half of the bottle before putting it in the cup holder of Candice’s chair. “Come on. Come play with me.”

When she stands up and offers a hand, Candice only hesitates a second before taking it. “I’m starting to think that you’re a bad influence.”

She winks at her over her shoulder. “You wouldn’t be wrong.”

Nina runs quickly into the surf, hooting and laughing the whole way, and Candice follows her without a second thought.

~*~*~*~*~

The air conditioning in their hotel suite is on full blast and Candice savors it, setting her beach bag down by the floor and flopping onto her bed. “Mmm,” she says, sighing contentedly. “I forgot how tired the sun makes you.”

“You wanna stay in tonight?” Nina says from the bathroom, stripping off her beach cover ups. “We can order all the really extravagant things from room service and watch bad TV.”

She smiles, rolling over, eyes still adjusting to the dim light of the room. “You sure do know how to sweet talk a girl. Sounds good.”

Stretching her arms over her head, Nina smiles back. “Works for me. Can I have the first shower?”

Candice’s mind immediately thinks about how big that shower is, how they could both easily fit but she just swallows hard. “Yeah, go ahead.”

The door closes behind her and Candice rests for a long minute, eyes closed as the room grows darker and darker from the setting sun, letting the rhythmic sound of the water lull her into a light doze.

She hadn’t slept for long when Nina nudges her awake, wrapped only in a towel, her long dark hair dripping down her chest. “Hey, you okay?”

“Oh, yeah, fine. Just tired.” Candice hesitates for a second, wondering if she is getting old.

When she sits up, Nina gasps. “Oh, my god.”

“What? What?”

“Did you put on sunscreen?” she asks, sitting next to Candice and looking at her back.

She shrugs. “Yeah, this morning. SPF 100.”

“Did you reapply it? Because your back looks like a lobster.”

“What?” Candice gets up and checks the mirror, turning so she can see her back. Other than where the strap for her bathing suit was, her back is large splotches of red. Checking more thoroughly, she can see her shoulders and parts of her face are also hotter than usual. Sighing, she says, “Great. This is gonna hurt in the morning.” She frowned at Nina. “Why didn’t you get burned?”

“Because I don’t have perfect porcelain skin like you do.”

Groaning, Candice rolls her neck, already feeling her skin tightening uncomfortably. “Awesome. I guess I’ll go take a shower. Will you order the food? I feel the need for chocolate and fried, just for one day.”

Unable to stifle a giggle, Nina says, “I think you’re already fried.”

“Haha, you’re so funny.” She sticks her tongue out at Nina, then locks herself in the bathroom, turning the shower on. Her friend had been nice enough not to use all the hot water, but Candice keeps it on the colder side as she washes the salt water out of her hair and gently scrubs her body. At least the exfoliant she overpaid for will be useful in a few days-she wonders if peeling shows up on camera.

Nina is already snacking on their dinner and Candice searches through her drawers for something that won’t hurt her burned skin. Finally pulling on a cotton cami and shorts, she climbs into bed with Nina, resting her overheated head against Nina’s cool skin.

“I’ve always though red was a good color for you.”

“You’re a bitch,” Candice says, but there’s no passion behind it.

Crawling over to the tray of food, Nina grabs a large plate and two forks. “Chocolate cake. Forgiven?”

“It’s definitely a start.”

They watch some trashy television-Nina heartily wishes that they never actually run into the Real Housewives of Atlanta while filming-as they work their way through their weight in junk food. After setting the room service cart outside, Nina ducks into their hotel fridge. “I got you something special.”

“Is it a time machine? Or beer?”

“Even better,” she says, holding up a bottle of green aloe. “I had the concierge get us some from the gift shop.”

Candice’s eyes go wide. “Oh, bless you.”

“Lay down and I’ll put it on you.”

She crawls out of the blanket and lays across the bed. Nina helps her with her shirt, though Candice is stunned into silence when Nina pulls it all the way off and lays it next to her on the bed. She tells herself that Nina’s seen boobs before-Nina’s got great boobs-and that the goosebumps erupting across her skin is from the air conditioning.

Nina sits on the bed next to her, warning, “It’s going to be cold,” before squirting a healthy amount of aloe across her back. Biting her bottom lip to keep from making noise, she pillows her face against her arms as Nina starts to rub it into her skin. The too cold feeling settles into a soothing coolness, even if Candice starts to feel hot all over.

“Did I ever tell you that I give really good back rubs?” Nina says and Candice can’t tell if her voice sounds low because her face is pressed into the bed or…some other reason.

“Have you been holding out on me, Miss Dobrev?” she says, attempting to keep her voice light and teasing. She’s not sure where the slight wobble in her tone comes from, but she thinks she may have imagined it.

Nina makes a noise in the back of her throat and whispers, “I’ll make it up to you.”

Suddenly, she’s kneeling over Candice’s back, not enough to hurt the sunburn but enough that Candice can feel her, a steady weight. As Nina’s hands rub more of the cold gel over her shoulder blades and all the way down the curve of her back, Candice can feel her nipples hardening against the comforter. Licking her lips slowly, she closes her eyes and counts backwards from ten, trying to think of anything other than Nina’s long fingers easing her tense muscles.

Leaning across her, Nina’s hands work on her shoulders and the top of her arms where the sun did less damage. “You okay?” she says and Candice knows she’s not imagining how deep and husky her voice has suddenly gotten.

“Fine,” she whispers just loud enough to hear, like she can’t manage to lie any louder. There’s nothing fine about how she feels right now and she wonders if Nina notices the way she keeps rubbing her thighs together and the way her breathing keeps getting heavier.

“Okay. Good.” She pushes Candice’s hair out of the way, thumbs digging into her neck as she tries to rub out the tension. “Is this good? I’m not hurting you, am I?”

She shakes her head slightly, though not enough to dislodge Nina’s hands. “No, no. It feels really good. Thanks.”

“You’re welcome.” She moves her hands back to her lower back, then chuckles. “You know, I got burned once. Didn’t have any aloe or anything either. I had to take a cup of ice from the freezer and I just…just rubbed pieces over my entire body, trying to cool down. I never knew anything could feel that good.”

Swallowing hard, Candice nods against her arms, trying to suppress a shiver. “I know what you mean.”

A little bit more aloe appears on her back and Nina rubs it into her sides, fingers working deep. “I can understand how you’d get so burned even when you’re used to the sun. I mean, you’ve got great pale skin and then… You know, you’re out there and the sun’s beating down on you but…everything just feels so good that you don’t know what’s happening until it’s already happened.”

She doesn’t even realize Nina’s near her until she feels her brown hair brush against her cheek. “You should roll over,” she says, climbing off Candice’s back slowly. “I need to do your chest.”

“What?” Candice stares at her, startled, rolling on to her side to face her. “I mean…”

“Your chest,” Nina says, resting her hand right below Candice’s collarbone. “It’s burned.”

She feels stupid for a second, trying to hide her embarrassment by rolling on to her back. At least her face was already red. It takes a second for her to feel comfortable enough to drop her arms from covering her breasts, but she takes several deep breaths tries to relax.

Nina covers her hands with the green goo before rubbing it on Candice’s chest. Rather than wonder why she can’t do this herself, Candice worries about whether or not Nina can feel how fast her heart is beating, like it might break her rib cage. It’s just a small stretch of space, but Nina takes her time coating it and Candice is too breathless to say a word.

Her hands dip down to Candice’s sides, skirting the edge of her breasts. Candice can’t hold back her gasp of air. When Nina’s eyes lock on her, she just stares back, unsure what to say or do. This is new-but not unwelcome-territory.

Apparently, Nina sees whatever she needs to see because her next move is to squirt the tiniest bit of aloe in the crevice of Candice’s cleavage. Her finger dip into it, then lightly brush against Candice’s still hard nipples. Deep in her throat, she moans, trying not to push against Nina’s hands as they circle and stroke the soft skin of her breasts.

She closes her eyes, unable to watch the intense concentration on Nina’s face without feeling like she needed to do something. Instead, she focused on the feeling of cool gel and soft touches on her most sensitive skin, the way Nina cupped her breasts, rolled her nipples between her fingers. She couldn’t remember anyone ever paying so much attention to them and it felt damn good.

Candice groaned when Nina’s hands leave her, but her eyes fly open when her fingers rub against her cheeks, over her nose, across her forehead. She swallows against a dry mouth as Nina cups her face in her hands, leaning forward enough to kiss her. Leaning up just enough, Candice kisses her back, her lips fitting against Nina’s in a way she could only describe as perfect.

Making a noise of happiness, Nina sucks at her top lip, then her bottom before easing them apart with her tongue to lick inside Candice’s mouth. She doesn’t even try to stop the moans she makes as Nina’s tongue brushes against hers, reaching up to grab a hold of her thick head of dark hair.

Finally breaking off, panting, Nina grins at her. “I’ve wanted to do that for a long time.”

“Me too.” She hadn’t known that this was what she wanted, but she now knows that she’s never wanted anything else in her life.

Nina pulls off her shirt, laying down on the bed next to Candice and kissing her sweetly. She smiles against Nina’s mouth before melting into the kiss, pressing her naked breasts against her friend’s. Candice intertwines their legs together as Nina’s hand strokes gently up her side, sending thrills down her back.

Feeling bold, she reaches for one of Nina’s breasts, cupping and squeezing it into her hand until Nina groans. The feeling echoes down her body and all she wants to do is make her make it again, kissing her harder. Nina matches her newly ignited passion, tugging at Candice’s shorts and panties. “These were really fucking unnecessary,” she growls until Candice kisses her.

Nina strokes down Candice’s side, hand rounding over the curve of her ass to hold her there, pressing their hips together. Smirking, Candice nips playfully at Nina’s lips before kissing down her body, taking one of her nipples in her mouth. The noise Nina makes is enough to make Candice shake with happiness and she licks and sucks at the nub before switching to the other.

Gently, Nina rolls them over until Candice is on her back. Her mouth latches to Candice’s neck, biting until Candice giggles. “Oh, thanks, Katherine.”

“Vampires aren’t your thing?” Nina asks, but she’s laughing too.

Candice pauses, thoughtful. “I think you’re my thing.”

For a long moment, Nina hesitates before her shock turns into a smile. “That’s a really good answer.” She leans down and kisses her again, slowly, taking her time. She avoids the burns on Candice’s skin as her hand slides down her body, easing her legs open so she can stroke between them. Candice didn’t even realize how wet she was until she feels Nina’s digits tease between her folds.

They kiss deeply, Nina’s thumb seeking out Candice’s clit and rubbing it just to hear her gasp. Her hips buck with the new sensation, searching out more of it so Nina can’t pull away. She doesn’t even try though, her index and middle finger pushing into her slowly until Candice just lays back and bites her lip through the intensity of the pleasure.

Nina kisses her neck, her cheeks, her closed eyelids, whispering as she fingers her. “Do you even know how hot you are? God, since the pilot, I’ve just wanted… You have no idea, Candice, I’ve wanted you so bad.”

Her hands twist in the comforter as her hips roll against Nina’s hand, a third finger entering her easily as she continues to flick and rub at her clit. Nina groans against her neck, then presses the lightest of kisses over her heart before kissing both of Candice’s breasts. When she gently tugs one of her nipples between her teeth, Candice’s eyes flow open and she orgasms hard against Nina’s hand, shaking and shuddering and chanting her name over and over.

Resting next to her, Nina pulls her as close as she can without hurting her while Candice wraps her arms around Nina’s neck. They kiss deeply, languishing in the afterglow until Candice nuzzles her neck. But when she tries to roll on top of Nina to go for round too, she just freezes and winces. “Hey,” Nina says, concern clear on her face as she watches her. “You okay?”

“Sorry just…stiff.”

“That’s not really hot on a girl.” She smiles though, kissing her gently. “We could just go to bed.”

Candice shakes her head, frowning. “No, I need to do you now.”

“This isn’t a trade. I just wanted to make you feel good.” Nina pulls her down easily, holding her. “We’ll sleep now and you can get me next time.”

Her stomach swoops with eager anticipation at the thought of next time, so she just nods. “Yeah. Next time.”

Groaning with the effort, Candice doesn’t even bother getting dressed before climbing in the other queen bed. She sets up her pillows as Nina goes to wash her hands, bringing back some Advil and a bottle of water. “Here, I’ve heard this helps if you take it before bed.”

“Thanks.” She takes the medication quickly, frowning as Nina picks up her shirt. “Hey, you know, that bed is covered with aloe and…other stuff. We could share this bed.”

Glancing at her over her shoulder, Nina smiles hesitantly. “You sure?”

“Definitely. Though I’m gonna have to put a ban on clothes. Might irritate the burn.”

Her smile morphs into a full grin as she drops the clothes on the floor, climbing over Candice to get in the bed. “Well, if you insist.”

They cuddle as close as they can, bare flesh against bare flesh. “Sleep well,” Nina whispers, playing with Candice’s hair. “Feel better. And if you don’t well…I’m sure I can find something to make you feel better."

She buries her head against Nina’s chest, face hurting from smiling. She’s gonna hold her to that.
