COMES BACK IN NOVEMBERRRR
OKAY, SO WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT LEVERAGE. IMMEDIATELY. BECAUSE OMG.
So, let's talk about the second episode first. It was super cute. Every episode with Sterling is a good episode. It kind of felt like Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew thing? Sterling is Nancy, of course. They had a really great dynamic. I basically love whenever Sterling and Nate hang out, there so much snark and history and previously having sexness. And I really loved Nate/Sophie in this too, they were very very cute.
I figured it out before they did, which I'm thinking is just because I've seen this show so much? I did it with the DB Cooper job too.
OH AND SOPHIE MADE A DOCTOR WHO JOKE. WITH STERLING. SO IT'S KIND OF LIKE META TOO.
Can I say that Gina looked AMAZEBALLS? Every part of her look was on point this episode. Hair, make up, outfit. SO UNF.
BUT I HAVE SO MUCH MORE TO SAY ABOUT THE FIRST EPISODE.
I'm like...75% sure this was supposed to work as a backdoor pilot. The tone and styling and everything was completely different from regular Leverage. This is Leverage's like, dark, mirror twin. I mean, ELIOT GOT SHOT. MULTIPLE TIMES. THE ONLY PERSON WHO'S ALLOWED TO GET SHOT IS NATE. And I think it also functioned as an introduction to these characters for people who are not familiar with them. Watch how they get introduced. They are introduced to new viewers. THERE IS NEW HAIR. ELIOT CUT HIS HAIR OFF. PARKER'S HAIR IS NEW. THIS IS ALL NEW STUFF. Eliot's wardrobe was really different too.
But this episode was basically Leverage: The OT3 Movie. Nate and Sophie did murder of an old guy and art theft. THIS WAS A FULL-BLOWN TERRORIST ATTACK. People were murdered, there was a sniper, this was clearly the start of something BIG. I can't imagine them just abandoning this. This was Leverage, Alias and 24 style. This was totally different. I mean, it was different in a SUPER AMAZING WAY, but different.
I also feel like...this is supposed to be Nate's last season? Like this is supposed to be the last season, whether they're prepared to admit it or not. From the beginning, JonRog has talked about a five season show and this is season five. And they've been pretty much setting this season up as Nate passing on the leader hat and making sure his people can take care of themselves. Because, TBH, Nate is pretty old. I mean, not ancient, but I feel like he's finally in the headspace that he can move on from this and be happy with Sophie and his boat. Whereas Eliot, Parker, and Hardison are still well in their prime.
But let's focus on the most important part here: the OT3ness of it all. GUYS, THEY WERE ALL FUCKING. I do not even ship Parker/Hardison/Eliot. I ship Eliot with Nate and with Sophie. BUT THIS VERSE. THIS DARK, DARK VERSE. OMG. I shipped it so much. I imagine at the end of the episode, they went to a hotel with a kingsize bed and they cuddled. There was kissing. HARDISON AND ELIOT PRACTICALLY KISSED IN THIS. I WAS LEGIT EXPECTING IT BECAUSE THAT IS WHERE THIS EPISODE WAS GOING.
Also all the Parker/Hardison stuff OMGGGGGG. Kisses and love and just perfection. She actually climbed him like a tree. And it was soooo hot.
The entire episode was shot different too, like there was a different director of photog. There was such dark lighting and small spaces and different fonts and colors. Watching it back to back with the Nate/Sophie episode just highlights it. That episode had sun and brightness and stayed basically on one set. The OT3 ep seemed much more expensive, for one. They used so many different locations and events.
SPANISH INFLUENZA. THEY HAVE NEVER DEALT WITH SOMETHING THIS BIG BEFORE. This isn't taking down bad guys Robin Hood style. This is saving the motherfucking world. There was no money involved, they didn't walk away with a check, they didn't save the little guy except for the woman THAT DIDN'T GET SNIPED and, ya know, ALL OF WASHINGTON DC THAT DIDN'T GET SPANISH INFLUENZA.
This is not the same show. This is Leverage all grown up and having dirty, hot threesomes.
And I loved it SO MUCH.
