OOC ~ New, Improved Character Survey of Doom

Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
He's about average height. Since exact numbers for Sara haven't been given yet, I have to estimate it against Yuuri, so he's probably around 5'7". And he's definitely much more on the slim side, though how much depends on the media; in the illustrations for the light novels he looks almost unhealthily skinny without a shirt on, whereas the animation's shirtless scenes gave him a more lean appearance. He still probably weighs less than Yuuri, as he'll obviously have less muscle, but since Yuuri is listed as being only 88.2 lbs...holy crap I guess that puts Sara at around 85 lbs. KKM anatomy is bizarre.

2. How old is he?
17 -- which is apparently adult age in Small Shimaron.

3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch?
Excellent posture. Probably to be expected given his position, but he always carries himself with grace and dignity, shoulders back and head held high. I doubt he even knows how to slouch anymore, as I'm sure even as a child he would have been expected to have good posture.

4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
Healthy enough. He's fit enough that he can run for a short while and swing a sword and not have anything resembling body fat, but he's definitely not as in shape as Yuuri.

5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
Very much graceful, he an even look pretty while dismounting a horse. If in a very stressful situation he might tense up quite a bit, yet even then he would at least be trying to pretend he was still relaxed.

6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror?
Yuuri says a number of times how beautiful Sara is, and that he could give Wolfram a run for his money (and he still claims to be heterosexual =/). And on his first appearance in the anime, some random chicks at the party in Large Shimaron go on about how cute he is. Sara's definitely aware of his looks, though, and puts them to good use. He'll play oblivious, however, like when he catches Yuuri staring at him (specifically his lips, really Yuuri?) and innocently asks if there's something on his face.

7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
More on the pale side but not extremely. He's definitely got very nice skin though, probably entirely clear and smooth except for that one scar on his chest.

8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style.
Oh my god that shit looks like pure silk. Really, it's not fair. Pale blonde, maybe close to platinum if Wolfram's shade of yellow if to be thought of as the more typical blonde. And it's very long and straight, down to his ass in the back with somewhat shorter sections in the front. He varies the style, keeping it down in more casual situations while putting the back up in different kinds of fancy ponytails for more formal sitautions.

9. What color are his eyes?
Gold normally, a shade something like honey, and then a glowing light blue when he's giving a "hint".

10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
The lavender glasses he always wears, presumably given to him by his father to help control his power. Also, his nails are way too nicely manicured and his eyelashes are just too long and dark for someone with such pale hair. Dear god it's just not fair ; ;

11. What are his chief tension centers?
Google is not helping me much in figuring out what this means, but...Sara's generally good at hiding tension anyway. Only thing I really noticed when he did get really tense on-screen was gritting teeth.

12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit?
He likes neutral colors with simple designs in casual or military situations, and more bright colors with embroidery or other embellishments like petaled edges in more formal situations. His outfits generally involve long sleeves and pants tucked into knee-high boots, looser shirts over that which might be belted or have a sash around the waist, a skirt thing over the pants, occasionally this beige cloak with a fur collar, and for accessories he usually only wears stuff in his hair, never any jewelry or anything (except for Julia's necklace in screenshots from the untranslated game, which I can only assume was more of a "haha Conrad gave me your necklace so I'm gonna wear it all the time just to rub it in your face" kinda thing). Even his nightclothes are long and involve skirts. Having made and worn one of these outfits, I can safely say that they're very warm, solidifying my belief that Small Shimaron must be on the cool side (and Large Shimaron is often shown as snowy so it can't be that far off...).

Sara definitely has more outfits than most of the cast, but it's justified in that most of the cast wears uniforms of some sort or just don't care. Sara's fashionable enough and cares about his appearance enough that he certainly varies his clothing more than the others, but not to the extent that he wears a different outfit every time he goes out. He only has his one casual outfit and one for military settings, and then only two formal ones. He does have at least two different nightgown things, though, and another robe thing over the nightgown in the beginning of the first OVA (which was hideous and didn't match the nightgown thing at all, but I'll forgive it since Belias put it on him and it was evidently just in private for warmth anyway).

13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them?
His clothes are generally fitted well, only loose or flowy in the skirts or sometimes sleeves. Even though some of his outfits look a bit silly in my opinion (battle corset what), he still works it.

14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences?
Being a king is kind of a full-time job, but his casual outfit is noticeably simpler and plainer than anything he wears in very public situations.

15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
I doubt boxers exist in his world unless it was like, a drawstring instead of an elastic. And while Shin Makoku has the whole "royal black g-string" thing going on, there's no indication as to whether Small Shimaron has anything similar. If he wears anything it would have to be a similar style to that, though lighter in color, to not be seen through all his light clothing, but if there's no royal requirement then Sara just strikes me as the type to go commando anyway.

Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
It's Ishida Akira, god how do you describe that. Not especially high or deep, but it's very smooth.

2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate?
He speaks very evenly and smoothly, very easily. He speeds up a little when upset, but is still very much understandable. He tends to have a very lilting, singsong-ish quality to his voice, though, especially when teasing.

3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
No accent that's translatable or pointed out, but as he's from a different country than the rest of the cast there might be a slight difference. He has a tendency to make a sort of humming sound if amused or questioning something.

4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency?
Since Shin Makoku has a language that Yuuri had to be mindfucked into knowing and then learn to write, and since in the manga Wolfram mentions that human cursive is strange, it's implied that humans might have their own language, in which case he's still easily understood by Yuuri and so is probably fluent in whatever language Shin Makoku uses as well as the human one.

5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
If there is a language barrier in the KKM verse, then he's always speaking Shin Makoku's language whenever with Yuuri, because Yuuri barely even knows how to write his own country's language, let alone speak another's.

6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words?
Sara is a genius in that he can speak off the top of his head excellently while still putting a great amount of thought into it. Basically, he can think things through even while speaking impromptu, and pull convincing excuses out his ass at a moment's notice.

7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
Very much eloquent, he speaks well even when under stress. Even when he was very upset in the anime he was still able to  verbalize intelligently and even his screaming is still very intelligible. Only when faced with his mother's possible death after indicating that she might actually care about him did he ever have difficulty with his words, and even then it was only a repetitive "It's a lie, it's a lie..."

Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?
Perhaps more intelligent than one would expect, as antagonists in the first two seasons of KKM had a tendency to be almost criminally stupid. He's certainly read more than you would expect from anyone who isn't a scholar, and he's knowledgeable about even other countries' affairs. He has good common sense as well, so a nice combination or book- and street-smarts.

2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate?
He's very capable of thinking on his feet, but he's also shown to enjoy chilling out once alone or with just Belias and deciding what he'll do.

3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
A good blend of logic and intuition when it comes to dealing with other people, he's good at figuring out what people want and how to make them do what he wants willingly. He's about dead center in terms of idealism and practicality -- he's nowhere near as optimistic as Yuuri, but his goals are in a way very idealistic. Yuuri's brand of idealism is so over-the-top, but because of his unique personality it seems to work out in the end for him. Sara is nowhere near being like Yuuri, but he can still manage to have very idealistic goals while being practical in how he goes about accomplishing them. He wants to be a great king so that people will acknowledge him more than his father who ignored him, and to do that he wants to unite the human lands under his rule and create a peaceful alliance with the demon lands without putting any of his own people in harm's way though actual fighting. Certainly that would be far more impressive than a mere war hero king like his father was, but it's also delving into Yuuri's sort of over-idealism -- except in that Sara is willing to betray Yuuri to do it, because by using Yuuri's power it becomes very much possible.

4. What kind of education has the character had?
Likely a number of tutors when he was younger, though Belias likely took over for them once he came along; a lot of reading of his own free will, of course; and the sort of enlightenment that comes of being very much unwanted -- by his own parents, even -- in a setting where everyone is willing to do whatever it takes to push themselves higher.

5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?
Sara's very much skilled in political areas, as well as economic and social ones -- he's knowledgeable about all the sorts of things that an involved king should know. He's very much interested in learning as much as he can about other countries, though, specifically Shin Makoku, if only because it would help him in getting closer to Yuuri.

6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert?
Such an extrovert. He does occasionally need to relax on his own or with just Belias, but overall he definitely gets a high out of being the center of attention, and he's the type to want to have people talking about him, negatively or positively, as long as he's on their minds. He delights in playing charming and making people like him, even if he really doesn't care about them, and his idea of fun involves messing with others in at least a teasing manner.

7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
He's very ambitious, but maintains a very relaxed, even-tempered attitude. Some things can put him in a bad mood, and then he'll obviously react in a less cheerful manner, but overall he's very balanced.

8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
He's suspicious of everyone always, but he takes on new situations like challenges to himself and will enthusiastically greet new people that interest him. It's rare for him to truly relax or trust anyone, but he at least pretends to.

9. Is he more likely to act, or to react?
Sara is a complete control freak and just being in the submissive position during a conversation makes him uneasy, so he prefers to act and force others to react to him, rather than be forced to react and give up his control of the situation.

10. Which is his default: fight or flight?
It depends on the situation -- if he thinks he can win then he'll take the challenge, but if there's too much of a risk to himself he'll gracefully step out.

11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
Sarcastic, a little sadistic. He likes innuendo, personally. He'll laugh at any joke if he wants a person to like him, though, and sometimes he might be genuinely amused even by lighthearted jokes. It really depends on the person and his mood.

12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them?
Nothing stated, of course, and nothing to the point of an actual disorder, but he does show very mild shades of a Histrionic Personality.

13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person?
Becoming king, obviously. Realizing at a very early age that his parents didn't care about him -- and that it wasn't his own fault.

14. What does he fear?
Lack of control and being unable to protect himself, definitely, and maybe the idea that there really is something wrong with him that caused his parents to not care about him. So much of who he is comes from his belief that he didn't do anything wrong and it's his parents who were at fault for abandoning him, the idea that there really is something wrong with him would probably upset him a great deal.

15. What are his hopes or aspirations?
To unite the human lands and be seen as a great king, ect. Essentially he just wants everyone to acknowledge him in whatever way possible -- respect, fear, love, whatever -- to reinforce his belief that he does deserve to be acknowledged and that his father is the one who was wrong by never doing so.

16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him?
He would rather not anyone know just to what extent his father ignored him -- it would be almost embarrassing if people were to know that he couldn't even make his own father look at him. And of course he doesn't want others realize what a manipulative little bitch he is until it's too late for them to do anything about it.

Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents.
HAHA. I mean. Not good at all. His mother was gone before he could even remember her -- and since he never heard anything about her having died or whatever, he can only assume that she just walked out, didn't even care enough to stick around until his first birthday. His father was present physically but far from emotionally. He paid next to no attention to Sara, one scene even showing a teeny!Sara chasing after his dad, only to trip and fall on his face with an adorable squeaking sound while his dad just kept walking, didn't even stop or once look at him. It's implied that he was always left to the care of nannies who obviously cared much more about their own families than they did about him, and that until Belias came along, no one paid him much attention at all.

2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
According to the novels he apparently has a twin brother, but since those are untranslated and the anime makes no mention whatsoever of a sibling we're just going to go with the idea that he's an only child in the anime.

3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand?
There are no blood relatives that he knows of that he's close to, and while there are probably some among the nobility that he's distantly related to, he wouldn't really care about any of them.

4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them?
He's close enough to Belias that he would consider him to be the closest thing to family he has -- ironic, in that it's later revealed that Belias is actually his uncle, his mother's younger brother. Belias showed up out of nowhere when Sara was still young and before he had entirely stopped trusting people, and became his retainer/bodyguard/servant/adviser/tutor/everything. He's been with Sara ever since and it's implied that Belias is the only person Sara really trusts, having earned it through more than a decade of loyalty. In a plot to gain Yuuri's trust, Sara even had Belias shoot him with an arrow so it could appear like he was taking it in Yuuri's place, demonstrating a huge amount of trust in Belias and his abilities. With the way Sara acts, it seems like he views Belias as the best and doesn't think he could be beaten, even by Conrad which is later proven wrong. Given that he trusts no one else, I wouldn't think it strange if Sara had a crush on him -- not that Belias would ever let anything come of it, of course, and it would be swiftly extinguished once Sara learns of their being family, but it's still worth noting in his dependence upon Belias.

5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
Yuuri, and as I'm going by the events in the anime, they first met at a ball in Large Shimaron where Yuuri was disguised as a girl. Sara recognized who he was but didn't bring it up, instead just helping him up when he tripped and then dancing with him in what might be the most sparkly, gay sequence in the whole damn show. They later met "officially" in Caloria, where Sara invited Yuuri to Small Shimaron. And Yuuri just decides that anyone he meets is his friend, so that wasn't a very hard thing to accomplish.

6. Does he have other close friends?
Only if you think of Belias as a friend. Otherwise no.

7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people?
He gets along with people excellently, but given his own trust issues and the sort of people he usually has to interact with, he never had a single friend before meeting Yuuri.

8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends?
UM. Well, since he doesn't yet know Belias is actually family, and since Yuuri is the focus of all his plans, "friends" are probably more important to him despite his only having the one.

9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once?
Single, though he's likely had a string of brief, mostly physical relationships, especially when he was younger and still seeking some sort of replacement for love before he became entirely disillusioned with the feeling.

10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
Nope.

11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest?
Belias if you want to think of it that way, otherwise probably some nobleman. Most recently Yuuri, of course.

12. What does he look for in a romantic partner?
Not that he's actively looking for anything serious, but he likes those who have a good sense of humor, who are kind and honest and don't mind how messed up he is.

13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any?
No, no, and like hell does he want any. He'll probably have to have some one day, though, just for the sake of having an heir to the throne =/

14. Does he have any rivals or enemies?
Wolfram is a bit of a rival in terms of for Yuuri's affections, and all of Yuuri's retainers are definitely enemies in that they stand between him and Yuuri. Large Shimaron's Lanzhil is an obvious enemy, too. But Sara doesn't really consider any of them enough of a threat to call them "enemies" himself.

15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the Kinsey scale?
Everyone is apparently pansexual in the world Small Shimaron and Shin Makoku are set in, but Sara actually falls at  about a 4 or a 5 on the Kinsey scale. He's just as capable of being sexually attracted to women as he is to men, but he does lean a bit more towards men. His mother ditching when he was so young already gave him a bit of a distrust towards women, and so many of the girls he deals with are those of nobility, catty, spoiled things that, if they're fawning over him, usually just want to marry the cute young king. He's also just not very fond of taking care of others, and so often that's what women expect of him that he'll more often just go after men for entertainment.

16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him?
It feels good, makes him feel wanted, and it's easy for him to get it when he wants it. It's less important to him now that he's a king and has bigger things to worry about, but he still occasionally uses it  as entertainment.

17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
He likes those ballsy enough to take command of the situation that aren't afraid of his title or position. He isn't, however, a fan of anyone that goes against his wishes; if he says no and they ignore him then he'll quickly be rid of them. He's also obviously not a fan of being in any type of restraints, again due to his control issues.

Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does he fit type?
No birthday is given for him, so I cheated a little by picking one that fit him according to astrological sign (with some help from KP). He's a Taurus, born on May 9th (and the KKM-verse definitely uses those same months, as Conrad mentions that in his country, "July" is "Yuuri", because "July" in German is "Juli" pronounced "Yu-lee", then the Japanese R/L switch...). Zodiac is a bit impossible given the lack of exact years given. They probably don't correspond to Earth ones anyway.

2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life?
Not really either. It's not mentioned if there's any religion or important gods in the human lands, but Sara likely wouldn't really believe in such things even if they do exist in his country. He's too distrustful to have faith in things he can't see.

3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
Sara does believe in honesty and not hurting others and all that, he's just a hypocrite. It's also generally for more selfish reasons (he likes honesty because he can't stand being lied to, he wouldn't hurt someone unless it was necessary because someday they might be useful to him, ect.). And he's just willing to compromise such ethics very easily if he believes it justifies the means -- so it's fine for him to lie to and betray Yuuri, because in the end it'll help lead to the unification of the human lands and peace under his rule.

4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
He's generally curious about other beliefs, even if he doesn't believe in them; he wants to know the reasons for them, and what can cause a person to believe something so strongly. If he views them as irrelevant, he's content to let people believe whatever they want, but he wouldn't stand for beliefs that were harmful to others or in some way "wrong" to him -- he could never be tolerant of a religion that involved human sacrifice, for example (unless there were obvious, positive results that he could see himself), and he's not very fond of the close-mindedness of other worlds that limit a person's sexuality to just the opposite sex, or categorize it by "straight," "gay," ect.

5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them?
He's very un-prejudiced compared to many humans, actually. He really does believe that demons are no worse than humans, and he's against all those old-world beliefs that demons are evil and all that.

Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
He's a king 8| Obviously very well off, and though he doesn't feel the need to lounge in absolute luxury like Lanzhil or whoever, he does appreciate little things like a soft bed, nice clothes and a well-kept garden.

2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him?
He moved up from a prince to a king, which only worked well for him, as it gave him more power and forced people to respect him.

3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others?
Castle, of course. Very nice one, it's kept clean and is in lovely condition with the work of the servants and all that also reside there. It is his home and all that, but Sara's not very emotionally invested in it; he's got little in terms of personal effects in his room, and the castle is more just a symbol of his status to him. And there's no need to get too attached to it, after all, when he plans on moving on up to Large Shimaron's castle eventually anyway.

4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on?
Other than the things he's required to spend money on (paying servants and guards, keeping the country running, ect.) he does sometimes spend on himself for things like clothes or haircare. While not very personal, his own room is nicely decorated, implying that he might spend on aesthetic details as well.

5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else?
King of Small Shimaron. He's very good at what he does and he can't imagine doing anything that would put him in a lower position with less power.

6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time?
Reading, horseback riding, attending social gatherings and such. I could see him having a more artistic hobby like painting or playing the violin, too.

7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
He eats when his meals are prepared for him, three a day, and of course it's all expertly prepared. He doesn't necessarily require such luxury, but he certainly isn't going to complain about it. He might occasionally miss a meal if very involved with something, but Belias would make certain that he never went too long without eating. Eating out is generally dangerous, giving the possibility of assassination and all that. He doesn't really drink much -- the idea of getting drunk and possibly acting like an idiot in front of others is distasteful to him. He'll occasionally have a bit of wine, but only for the taste or to be polite and never to actually get drunk.

Associations
Which of the following do you associate with the character, or which is his favorite:

1. Color? Lavender and gold.
2. Smell? Vanilla; it's soothing and appetizing without being overly feminine.
3. Time of day? Night; he likes the cooler temperature and the darkness and the moon.
4. Season? Spring; besides including his birthday, it's when the most flowers are in bloom, and it's not as warm or sticky as summer can get.
5. Book? ...I got nothing =/
6. Music? Don't Stop by Innterpartysystem reminds me of him~
7. Place? He definitely liked Blood Pledge Castle when he visited. He said it was a "warm" place, and obviously not in terms of temperature.
8. Substance? Er...liquid? He's good at going with the flow, idk I barely even understand the question.
9. Plant? Lavender; it actually means "distrust".
10. Animal? Luna Moth.
