Bored tonight, so I figured I'd do all those year-end memes that have been going around. So let's begin!
In your archive, find the first post for every month of 2011, and copy and paste the first sentence here.
January: I always think I shouldn't be such a procrastinator, but time after time, I just keep on putting things off until the last minute. (This was me being fed up with packing. XD;; )
February: This may sound a little premature, but I have been living here in Pensacola for a full month now, and I've gotta say... this city is really hitting a sour note with me. (It's been a full YEAR now, and this is still true).
March: My 11 day stretch of work and school are finally over~!
April: Since I'm more or less caught up with my schoolwork now (let's pretend I've started my Microsoft Access assignment that's due Saturday >__>), I thought I'd break out the ol' tablet and do something completely useless with my time. (The picture in question was my TxN chibi comic response to finding out about Gaku's marriage. XD)
May: Wow, I guess I haven't posted in about 3 weeks, huh?
June: Apparently it's been about a week and a half since I last updated my lj! (Are we sensing a pattern yet? >__>)
July: Today I got a haircut (yay)!
August: Dear flist,
At your earliest convenience, please read this manga. (That manga was Dear Green ~ Hitomi no Ounowa, by Fujiyama Hyouta. I still stand by that recommendation.)
September: Over the past several days, we've had lots of rain and some wind thanks to tropical storm Lee, which came ashore in Louisiana and sloooooooooowly moved northeast from there. (You can always count on me for weather updates. I am so lame. u__u)
October: Today was, um, an adventure. (It involved watching Cinnamon and her boyfriend catch fish and crabs, and then dinner at Village Inn).
November: I don't want to post this to the comm 'cause to be honest, it's kinda crap. (It was a pretty lame Trifecta picture--thus far my one and only. And it's still kinda crap. :p)
December: Wow, I guess I haven't updated this journal in a few weeks (though I feel like I'm posting all the time over on
sekai_hatsukoi XD;; ). (Yep, my infrequent posting habits have definitely been a theme this year. XD;; )
Did you keep your New Years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't make New Years' resolutions because I so rarely keep them, so... no, I won't be making any more for this year.
Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nope. I don't even know anyone who was pregnant.
Did anyone close to you die?
Thankfully, no!
What countries did you visit?
None. It was a travel-free year for me. D:
What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?
Money! Since moving out on my own, going to school full time, and getting fewer hours at work because of this, my finances are stretched super thin. I'm not so happy about this at all.
What date(s) from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Personally, nothing in particular stands out in my mind.
What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Finally moved out of my parents' house again (to greater success!) and managed to get all As my first 3 semesters back in college after my 7 year absence!
What was your biggest failure?
Having to withdraw from chemistry because the concepts just weren't sinking in and I was drowning in a sea of formulas and laws and chemical properties.
Did you suffer illness or injury?
I went through a period over the summer where I got migraines every week for 3 weeks--one of which was so bad I ended up going to the ER (though in retrospect, I probably didn't need to). Also, I broke my pinky toe in September.
What was the best thing you bought?
I bought a new mattress when I moved, and oh man is that thing comfortable! *___* I do enjoy having a full size bed instead of a twin now. So much space~
Whose behavior merited celebration?
Uh... can I just leave up
fencer_x's answer and say the people of Japan, post-earthquake? Because I can't think of anyone else.
Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Mostly the idiots in the Sekaiichi Hatsukoi fandom. They are an immature and argumentative lot!
Where did most of your money go?
Day to day living expenses and textbooks. :/
What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Sekaiichi Hatsukoi, really. First I got excited about the anime coming out (even if it was disappointing), then the new manga chapters. And lastly, Yokozawa no Baai, when it finally came out at the end of the year. I also got excited about the last few episodes of No. 6, but mostly in that sort of "I want to see it, but I'm afraid it will tear my heart out of my chest and rip it in twain" way. And I got really excited about coming home at the end of April and seeing my family and all my kitties again, as I really missed them~
What song will always remind you of 2011?
Probably any of the Sekakoi themes, Aimer's "Rokutousei no Yoru", and anything from UtaPuri.
Compared to this time last year (2010), are you:
i. Happier or sadder? Sadder. D:
ii. Thinner or fatter? Neither. Hopefully a few pounds heavier!
iii. Richer or poorer? Poorer. So much fucking poorer. u__u
What do you wish you'd done more of?
Sadly, probably worked so I could've had a little more money (even if I hate the job). Also, I wish I had had more time to devote to fandom-related things like art and fic and scan-cleaning.
What do you wish you'd done less of?
Being sick with migraines? Or worrying about chemistry.
How will you spend Christmas?
I spent it at home with my family, having breakfast before opening presents, then lazing about all afternoon. XD;;
What was the most embarrassing thing that happened to you in 2011?
I completely botched a few closing announcements at work that I really wish I hadn't. That's... really all I can think of, sadly.
Did you fall in love in 2011?
HAH! Not even!
How many one-night stands?
See above answer. :p
Favorite TV show?
I'll go with No.6, as the SH anime was quite disappointing since they couldn't show any of the porn and that's kind of a big deal to the series. *leaves
fencer_x's answer up, as she sums up my feelings quite well* XD
How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2011?
Same as always, I suppose? Dressy-casual: cool summer dresses, sweater dresses with leggings and boots, and skirts and pants with dressy-ish tops and flats.
What kept you sane?
Having
fencer_x and
alleyquat to rant to about school and work and family. And with
fencer_x, all of the idiots we discovered in the Sekakoi fandom.
Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
See the above 95% of the SH fandom :P For such by-and-large interesting, intriguing canon, it's got some shallow, petty people in the fandom that make me want to tear my hair out :P <--this (courtesy, once again, of
fencer_x What was the best book you read in 2011?
I hate these questions because I don't read very often (except manga). I'd have to go with Sore Nari ni Shinken nan desu. That was a beautiful story. Yokozawa no Baai was a pretty close second though! And both had some truly wonderful domesticity featuring single fathers. can't go wrong with that!
What was your greatest musical discovery?
I was quite impressed with Kita Shuuhei's Sekakoi OP themes, Aimer's "Rokutousei no Yoru", as well as my guilty pleasure, UtaPuri. XD
What did you want and get?
Good grades in school, and a much nicer new apartment in November.
What did you want and not get?
An iPod touch. I was disappointed to have waited 3 extra months only to have them not release a new one...so I bought a Samsung Galaxy Player instead and am quite pleased with it! Also, I really wanted a fridge with external water/ice access, but my new place doesn't have one either. u__u
What was your favourite film of this year?
I don't watch movies, so... none.
What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I went out to eat with my sister, then went to her boyfriend's place to go swimming at his apartment complex's pool with him and his little brother. Then we went to the store, back home, where we ate and I talked to my mom. Finally, we went back to Cinnamon's boyfriend's place for a late night swim and some cupcakes. Also, I turned 28.
What three things would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Having a better job with better pay, having friends who live closer than 500 or 6,000 miles away, and living in a city which doesn't suck so freaking much (Tokyo would be lovely~).
Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
None? I don't really keep up with such things. But I guess *pnish* counts as celebrities, so... them.
What political issue stirred you the most?
Ugh, I hate politics, but I'd say maybe President Obama finally officially ending the Iraq War and withdrawing all of the troops. It's about damn time we got out of there!
Who did you miss?
My family and all of my kitties~ And my friends who live so far away from me. ;~~~;
Who was the best new person you met?
Probably Grace, who was in two classes with me last semester and was a really nice girl, though we don't keep in touch as much now. Or Tim, who I work with and who's probably the only guy who reminds me of the kind of awesome coworkers I had back home.
What is a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011?
Don't count on other people to do what they say they're going to when they say they're going to. Also, don't expect your sibling/roommate to give you the time of day once she gets a boyfriend.
What quote can be used to sum up your year?
"We really do have the best conversations." XD
Watch out, guys--secrets are being revealed! XD
Fics this year (oldest to newest):
Nostalgia (Takano/Onodera):
A Long Time Coming: PG
Uncontainable: NC-17
Total: 2 fics
Word Count: 5,587
Other Pairings:
Untitled Drabble #1: G
Untitled Drabble #2: NC-17
If You Give a Cat a...: NC-17
Kirishima/Yokozawa/human!Sorata teaser: NC-17
Total: 4 fics
Word Count: 14,040
Total:
6
Total Word Count:
19,627
Looking back, did you write more fics than you thought you would this year, less than you thought, or about what you predicted?
I don't think I really expected to write anything this year since I knew I'd be in school and would likely have lots of homework and no time to write, so I'd say 19,000 words is a lot more than I expected!
Where did you publish/archive your stories?
Mostly on LJ (specifically
sekai_hatsukoi this year), and also AO3 now.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2010?
Uh... Yokozawa/Sorata, for one! Never had I attempted to write about a guy and his cat-turned-human. XD;;
What’s your favorite story this year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you the happiest.
I guess I'm pretty proud of
If You Give a Cat a... simply because it took so much time and effort and I think it came out rather well for a pairing I had never written before.
Okay, NOW your most popular story.
This is a stupid question. Nothing I write is popular. :p But AO3 tells me
A Long Time Coming has the most hits (but just barely), so I guess that must be the most popular.
Story most under appreciated by the universe?
All of them. I thought we went over this already. Definitely
If You Give a Cat a... since it's a super uncommon (and kind of nonsensical XD;; ) pairing, so people are less inclined to give it a chance.
Story that could have been better?
Sometimes I'm good at drabbles, sometimes I just miss the mark.
Untitled Drabble #1 unfortunately fell under the latter category. In my defense, I hadn't written a drabble in about a year, so I was pretty rusty at writing in short format. Plus the characters were unfamiliar, so... yeah. Lots of room for improvement there.
Sexiest story?
Hmm... for completed fics, probably
Uncontainable? I dunno, I just feel like it had that sense of desperation to it that my other NC-17 rated fics didn't? I think
Untitled Drabble #2 is probably a close second? But they're all good~ Who doesn't love a good behemoth porn monster? XD
Most fun story?
Hmm... maybe
Untitled Drabble #2? It was a fun pairing to write, even if I'm not so sure I was as successful at it as I had hoped to be. I rarely write things that are AU, so this was just a fun little aside that I actually rather liked writing.
Story with single sweetest moment?
The ending of
A Long Time Coming was pretty sweet, I think. Nostalgia can really have a lot of surprisingly sweet moments~
The story that made you cry?
Is it common for authors to cry at their own stories? Because I don't. Maybe because most of what I wrote was porn. XD;;
Hardest story to write?
Oh gosh.
If You Give a Cat a..., for sure. There were times when I thought I'd never be able to finish it because the characters just didn't want to cooperate and do what I wanted them to. So the whole thing ended up getting dragged out about 8,000 words longer than I had intended. :p
Easiest story to write?
Surprisingly, I think I cranked out
Untitled Drabble #2 in the shortest amount of time.
Most overdue story?
A few people keep clamoring for a sequel to
If You Give a Cat a..., but now that Trifecta exists, I doubt I'll ever write one. (And don't hold your breath for a threesome. :p)
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
I decided to write my cracktastic Yokozawa/Human!Sorata fic, which I was sure no one would read. And I learned that if you can write it well enough, you just might be able to sell someone on a pairing. Also, it helps if you include copious amounts of porn. XD;;
Do you have any fanfic goals for the New Year?
Finish my Trifecta 50-sentence fics!
Leitmotif of the year:
What the fuck is that?
Story with the single sexiest moment:
Probably the single, sexy moment that was
Kirishima/Yokozawa/human!Sorata teaser. XD
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:
Well, when I first started writing
Untitled Drabble #1, it kind of felt wrong. The sequel did too, but I eventually stopped letting it bother me and it worked out quite well!
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
This is hard, since most of what I wrote this year was freaking porn, which doesn't necessarily allow for a whole lot of character introspection. :p I kind of feel like I learned a lot about Yokozawa while writing
If You Give a Cat a.... And I think I stayed pretty true to his character even after we finally learned more about him in his official case, so that was a plus!
Biggest surprise:
Me writing anything! XD
Story I haven't yet written, but intend to:
Anything for Trifecta. I've started some drabbles, but who knows when I'll finally finish them.
Word count totals!
Non-collaborative fic word count total: 19,627
Collaborative fic word count total: Didn't write any collaborations
