I guess my monthly check in is turning into a every other month or less type. I continue to keep up my nerdy journal somewhat and have already made my post about today's doomsday silliness: http://lolqqmoar.livejournal.com/23579.htmlRead more... )
My son has said to me that if he ever made music his job, he'd end up hating it. For him, it has to be that thing he does because he loves it, not because he has to earn money doing it.
I think that if he COULD live on what a musician makes and never have to worry about whether the next gig or two will cover rent and stuff, or "selling out," he would. But I do get what he means. I'm much the same--another reason I am VERY happy being with my small press.
Thanks for commenting. I totally understand where your son is coming from. It's hard to get by in the arts and so many people just can't make it with art alone. I think everyone would like the money that comes with selling out or being owned by a big publisher, but no one really wants to resort to that. The fact that you've been able to pursue your art with a small publisher is inspiring and I'm glad you've been able to do that. :)
