Summary - Luhan thought he knew what happened. Sehun thought he knew what happened.
“Hey weren't you like best friends with that guy Sehun one time?”
“Yes like three years ago, why?”
“He joined Uni last week.”
There was a moment of silence, before Luhan started having a coughing fit, splattering all the water that was inside his mouth on to Minseok’s latest assignment. Yixing quickly sensing Luhan’s discomfort, started patting the older boy’s back in an attempt to soothe him, while Minseok tried to dry his now wet paper by blowing on to it.
“Sehun, joined this university? Oh Sehun?”
“Yeah, well I mean we only know one Oh Sehun, so I’m guessing it’s him.”
“But you didn’t see him, so it could be another Oh Sehun?”
“Luhan, it’s Sehun, your former best friend okay? And it’s totally no problem that you ruined my paper.”
Luhan glanced at Minseok’s paper, his mouth forming a small pout at his work, “I’m sorry.”
“Its fi-“
“But really are you sure he joined this university?”
“Well, only one way to find out. Turn around and see for yourself if it’s him.” At that Luhan’s eyes shot open, he quickly made a move for his bag and took his phone out.
“Umm what are you doing?” Yixing asked, looking confusedly at a Luhan who was glancing at the reflection of Oh Sehun on his phone.
“Shit, it’s him. I have to go.”
“What the hell? Luhan, bro what’s wrong with you man?” Minseok asked the boy, who had already gotten up with his bag slung over his shoulder.
“No time to explain, Bye.”
The two boys watched the retreating figure of their best friend and looked at each other in confusion.
“Did something happen between those two?”
“Well obviously, otherwise they wouldn't be former best friends.”
Luhan ran into the class that he was supposed to have next, glad that it was empty. Well almost.
“Hey Kyungsoo.”
“Hi Luhan.” There was a slight pause, “why are you out of breath?”
“I ran away from someone.”
“Oh, who?”
“Somebody that I used to know.”
“Oh.” Luhan slumped into the chair next to Kyungsoo’s his breathing labored because he had just run 3 flights of stairs in under one minute. That was a record for
him.
“Why do you look so flustered?” he asked Kyungsoo, noticing the boy’s red cheeks.
“I ran into Jongin and his new friend.”
“Right. Did he say anything to you?”
“Yeah he introduced his friend to me, Sehun or something like that his name was. Of course it wasn't like I was paying attention to what he was saying, too busy staring at him you know.”
Kyungsoo continued with his story, but Luhan wasn't listening. His mind was occupied by one person.
“Sehun?”
Kyungsoo stopped midway of his sentence and looked at Luhan. “Yeah that’s his name I think. Why you know him?”
“Of course not, why would I know any of Jongin’s friends?”
Their conversation stopped there because their professor had walked in, surprised to see the two of them already ready for the class. Kyungsoo was Luhan’s desk mate in his Research and Methodology class. Luhan had immediately liked the wide eyed boy who had a crush on the boy who was majoring in dance and they had become fast friends. However Kyungsoo liked to keep to himself, so they rarely hung out, outside of class.
Half way through their lesson, Luhan bent his head towards Kyungsoo’s “You really should talk to Jongin about your feelings.”
“My feelings are fine being inside of me.”
“Yeah but one day it’s all just going to blow up and you will regret not letting him know when you had the chance.”
“You talk like you have experience.”
“Maybe I do.”
“What are you both doing in my room?”
“I’m your roommate.”
“Yes, I mean no what is he doing here as well? Luhan asked, pointing at Minseok who was sitting on top his desk looking at him with a strange gleam in his eyes. “And
why do you both have that look on your face?”
Minseok glanced at Yixing and smirked. Yixing walked behind Luhan and locked the door, grabbing the key and stuffing it in his back pocket.
“Okay, now you are freaking me out.”
“Let’s talk Luhan.”
“About what?”
“About Sehun, and why you are so intent on avoiding him to the extent that you had your lunch in the library today.”
“I don’t want to talk about him.”
Yixing smiled, and walked beside his best friend, “Oh but you have to.”
“Wait so let me get this straight, you were in love with your best friend Sehun, and you being the dimwit you are kept it inside of you for one whole year, and then Sehun went and got himself a boyfriend, and you couldn’t handle it so you confessed your feelings to him and he didn’t say anything, and then you both stopped talking.”
“Why do I get the feeling there’s something missing?” Yixing asked, grabbing his third slice of pizza from the box in front of him.
“Fine. I kissed him.”
Minseok stared at Luhan with his mouth wide open, filled with food.
“What? Minseok close your mouth please, it’s disgusting.”
Luhan sighed and rested his head against his pillow. It had been a long time since that incident, and he had done his best to forget the boy who made him feel so giddy and happy. He didn’t want to relieve the pain from that day all over again.
“One day, I just snapped. I had gotten fed up of seeing him with Tao. I wanted to be the one next to him you know. We went to this party and there was a lot of booze and I got drunk. He dropped me home because I was so out of it that day and I don’t know, once he took me inside, I just kissed him. And you know what he did, nothing. He didn’t do anything. He just stared at me, and then I confessed to him, and he stood there looking at me, and then left. I was crushed you know, I mean this was the boy I was in love with. When I went to school the next week, he stopped talking to me. He just stopped. We stopped acknowledging each other’s presence, it’s like the other person didn’t exist.”
“That’s when Minseok and I joined school.” Yixing spoke up, his warm eyes on the other boy. Luhan nodded his head.
“And he left.” Luhan said softly, remembering the day he found out Sehun had moved out of town with his parents, not even bothering to tell Luhan.
“What a jackass.”
“It’s my fault though.” Luhan cut in, his eyes now red, “I was out of line.”
“You were drunk.”
“Still.”
“No not still, Luhan he was your best friend, he should have had the courtesy to at least turn you down or just give you a freaking explanation as to why he just dropped you out of his life.”
“I don’t like him.” Minseok said, grabbing his fourth slice.
“Neither do I, we like you way more.” Luhan smiled at his two best friends, glad they had come walking in when they did.
Sehun was like a ray of sunshine in a dark place for Luhan. Obviously anyone who looked at Sehun would think otherwise. He had a sharp face, with hard eyes that masked any emotion, and soft pink lips. Clearly growing up had done wonders to him, because the Oh Sehun standing a few feet away from him was tall and well built. Luhan knew that beneath that hard exterior, Sehun was a playful, kind hearted person, he was the person Luhan had fallen in love with.
“Jeez what on earth did you see in him, it looks like he has a permanent scowl fixed on his face.”
“Shut up, he’s handsome, and you know it.”
“Don’t worry Lulu, you are pretty yourself, you can give him a run for his money.” Luhan smacked Minseok’s arm and moved along the line, eager to get to the cheesecake.
Everything was fine for a good three months, and Luhan finally thought that maybe it was all over now. He knows Sehun knew he was in the same university but the boy made no sign of coming or wanting to talk to him. Everything was fine.
The following day Luhan regretted ever thinking that everything was fine.
“Luhan! Oh my God there you are, I’ve been looking all over for you.” Luhan turned his head towards Kyungsoo’s small frame that was walking towards him, and through his peripheral vision he saw Sehun’s head snap towards his side. He felt Sehun’s eyes land on him, and drill holes into his body.
“Calm and be normal.” Yixing whispered from his left side.
Luhan nodded slightly, smiling at Kyungsoo, “Hey, what’s up?”
“I need to borrow you notes, I made a mistake somewhere and it doesn't make any sense to me anymore.”
“Oh okay, wait.” Luhan rummaged through his bag, handing his tray to Yixing. When he got his book out, he handed it over to Kyungsoo, who smiled and worded a small ‘thanks ‘and ran way.
Minseok pushed Luhan back into the line, “Keep moving, and don’t look at the jackass.”
Luhan bit his cheek from inside, he knew Sehun was watching him. He could feel the boy’s eyes on him, but he pretended not to be bothered by it, grabbing his cheesecake before following Yixing outside. They would sit outside today.
“He didn’t take his eyes off you, not for one minute. I was watching him, Jongin tried to get him back into the conversation but he kept staring at you.”
“That makes me feel so much better thanks.”
“I think he wants to talk to you.”
“Why would you think that?”
“Because he’s coming this way with Jongin right now.”
Luhan choked on his delicious cheesecake, swearing at Sehun inside his head. What does he want from him, after all these years? Luhan wanted nothing to do with him.
“Yixing! Hey.”
“Hello Jongin, and friend.” Yixing replied back curtly.
There was an awkward silence, before Luhan heard Jongin clear his throat, but he didn’t turn around. No he refused to turn around to look at Sehun.
“So this is my friend Oh Sehun, and umm Sehun this is Yixing, he’s in my dance class. His friend Minseok and this is Luhan hyung.”
Minsoek and Yixnig both gave Sehun cold hellos and Luhan finally turned around to meet the eyes of the boy who had crushed and stamped on his heart.
“Luhan hyung.” His voice came through soft and melodious.
Jongin’s eyes widened in surprise, “You two know each other?”
Sehun’s eyes crinkled, like they used to when Luhan would joke with him. Luhan’s eyes hardened, he was not going to do this. No fucking way.
“No, I don’t know him.” Something similar to pain flashed across Sehun’s eyes before his eyes became hooded again. “Nice to meet you Oh Sehun. Now if you excuse me, I have to go.”
He brushed past Sehun and as their skin came into contact, electricity charged through Luhan’s body, momentarily making him lose his balance. Sehun caught him though, his strong arms wrapped around Luhan’s back, bringing Luhan to a standing position.
The said boy bent down to Luhan’s level, “Can we talk?”
“No.” was all he said before detaching himself away from Sehun and walking away from them.
“You look pissed off.”
“I am pissed off.”
“Oh why?”
“I ran into someone.”
“Oh, who?”
“Someone that I used to know.”
“Ahh, him again. Well anyway thanks for letting me borrow your notes. And I want you to know I decided to take your advice.”
Luhan turned his head towards Kyungsoo in confusion, “Advice?”
“Yes.” He straightened up in his seat, “I’m going to tell Jongin.” Luhan smiled at his friend’s new found confidence, happy that he had something to do with it.
“I just hope I won’t get rejected.”
“You won’t, trust me.” After all Jongin himself, had once told Luhan about his feelings for Kyungsoo.
Class started and Luhan found himself thinking about Sehun. What did he want to talk about? Was it possible that he wanted to apologize to Luhan? No, Luhan refused to accept whatever petty explanation Sehun had to offer.
After doodling on his book for an hour, while thinking about Sehun finally the bell rang. Kyungsoo placed his book on Luhan’s table and Luhan looked at him in confusion.
“He must be really something, to occupy your mind for one whole hour. I copied notes, give them back to me tomorrow.”
“Thank you.”
Kyungsoo smiled at him, patted his shoulder and walked out of class, “Good Luck!” Luhan shouted as the boy left through the door.
Packing his bag, he walked out and was surprised when he found Yixing and Minseok standing by the door.
“There you are! How are you feeling?”
“I’m fine.” Luhan lied, he was not fine. How could he be fine when Sehun was here?
“Liar, come on let’s go.”
“Where are we going? I have class.”
“Nope we are cutting class, and going out. It’s time to go party.”
Party for Minseok apparently was taking Luhan to a bubble tea shop.
However Luhan found himself forgetting about Sehun for a while as he sipped on his Taro bubble tea listening to Minseok and Yixing tell him about their day. It was all
fine, until Yixing stopped smiling and started glaring. A worried look planted itself on Minseok’s face as he stared at something behind him.
“Don’t turn around.” Yixing said, when Luhan made a motion to turn his head to see what they were looking at. He knew then, that Oh Sehun was there in the shop. Of course he would come, he loved bubble tea too.
Stupid Luhan, stupid.
“Luhan! Is that you?”
“Fucking hell.” Minseok said under his breath, as Kyungsoo’s voice floated through the shop to them. Few seconds later, Luhan glanced up from his drink to look at a flushed Kyungsoo smiling at him widely. “Can we sit with you guys?” he asked expectantly.
Luhan didn’t have the heart to say no.
Few minutes later, Luhan was sitting between Yixing and Kyungsoo. In front of him, Sehun sat in-between Minseok and Jongin.
There was a prolonged silence, before Yixing finally managed to break it, “So since when did Kyungsoo and you start going out Jongin?”
Jongin brightened up at the question, giving Kyungsoo a smile before turning to Yixing, “Since today actually, you can say this like our first date.”
“What kind of a person takes a person they like on a date with his friend.”
“Minseok!”
“What just saying.”
“No he’s right. Actually, we were going to drop Sehun off at his house and then go off to a movie, but then Sehunnie here, saw the bubble tea shop and wanted to drink one badly.”
“Oh Is that so Sehunnie?” Luhan kicked Minseok under the table, knowing the sound of his sarcastic tone.
“Yeah, I like bubble tea” was the answer that Sehun gave Minseok. All the while, Luhan kept his eyes on his drink, refusing to look up. “Luhan hyung knows that.”
Luhan’s head shot up at that, glaring at Sehun. Yixing held his hand from the bottom and Jongin glanced at Luhan in surprise.
“I thought you said you don’t know each other.”
Before Luhan could even answer Sehun spoke up, and Luhan wanted nothing but to punch him in the face, “He’s lying. We used to be best friends. But one day we just stopped talking didn’t we Luhan?”
Luhan’s face hardened, and Minseok looked at Sehun like he couldn’t believe the shit that was coming out of Sehun’s mouth.
Kyungsoo glanced at Luhan’s clenched fist, everything finally clicking into place.
“Yes we did, I wonder why?” Luhan’s voice came through cold and void of any emotion, truthfully he was dying inside, why was Sehun doing this to him. He knew exactly what had happened, and yet he chose to put Luhan through it all over again?
“You tell me Luhan? Why did you stop talking to me?” It took a few seconds for Luhan to realise that Sehun was accusing him of breaking their friendship and that’s when he snapped. He shot up from his seat, throwing Yixing’ hand away from him.
“I stopped talking to you? Are you really accusing me of breaking our friendship?”
Sehun also got up from his seat, the two of them seething with anger. Yixing glanced at Minseok helplessly.
“Yes I am, I mean you fucking kissed me and then you told me you loved me and then that was it. You never spoke to me again.”
Luhan could not believe what he was hearing, he did not need to hear this right now. “I can’t believe I’m listening to all this bullshit right now. I’m leaving.”
“That’s right leave. Avoid the situation, that’s all you’ve ever done.”
“Kyungsoo MOVE!” The smaller boy jumped out of his seat, allowing a seething Luhan to dash out of the shop. People all around were staring at the group now, and Yixing made a motion to stand up.
“Don’t. I want to talk to him.” Sehun’s voice cut through, and Yixing glanced at the boy, slumping back down in his seat, in defeat.
“Oh hell no, boy you hurt Luhan. You are not going anywhere near him again.”
Minseok’s hand shot up to hold Sehun. The other boy, bent down removing Minseok’s hand from his arm.
“This is between me and him. I need to sort this out.”
“Excu-“
“Minseok, let him go.” Minseok glanced at Yixing in confusion, “He’s right, they need to sort this out.” Sehun stumbled past Jongin and ran out of the door, following the path Luhan had taken.
Another moment of silence.
“Lovely start to a first date, don’t you think?”
Yixing kicked Minseok from underneath the table, “You guys should go. Have fun, forget about those two,” he said waving his hand behind him, “they’ll figure it out.”
Jongin nodded his head, grabbing Kyungsoo by the arm and leaving the shop.
“I suppose we have to pay for their drinks too.” Yixing kicked the other again, going back to sipping his drink, finally in peace.
“They sounded like they were married and having a serious fight.” Yixing mouth quirked up at the side, at Minseok’s comment.
He hoped they could fix their problems, because clearly Oh Sehun was just as much as in love with Luhan as Luhan was in him.
“Stop following me!”
“We need to talk.”
“I have nothing to say to you.”
“Then at least listen to what I have to say! Luhan!”
But Luhan wasn’t listening, he kept walking. His heart hurt so much, he was so confused. He was supposed to hate Oh Sehun, not feel the opposite.
“Luhan!” a hand grabbed his from behind, turning him around. “Will you stop walking away from me? God, you’ve been doing that for the past three months. Every time
I try to come to you, it’s like you sense me and just leave. I have been trying to talk to you for the past three months, so just listen this once will you?”
Luhan pulled his hand away from Sehun’s, making a motion to turn away again when Sehun’s voice cut through etched with pain, “please.”
He turned around, but didn’t move. Sehun took this as a sign to start talking.
“Look, I don’t know what happened that day okay?”
“You don’t? Because I know what happened perfectly fine and I was the one who was drunk.”
He heard Sehun sigh and he knew the boy was now running his hands through his hair. It was an old habit, it was funny how Luhan still remembered small details about Sehun. Even the tiniest things, Luhan could never forget.
“It just came out of nowhere hyung. You just kissed me and told me you loved me, and God I had a boyfriend at that time. I wasn’t supposed to be happy that you kissed me or happy that you loved me back. Because I’ve loved you all my life, and there you were telling me that you felt the same way. “
Luhan’s breath hitched, “but it wasn’t me. I wasn’t like that. I couldn’t do that to Tao. I couldn’t tell you I loved you too, or kiss you back harder than you kissed me.”
“You left Sehun. You could have at least said you didn’t feel the same way or give me some sort of explanation.”
“I left to break it off with Tao. I know I should have said something, but I wanted to be a better person, I wanted to tell you when I wasn’t with someone. I wanted to be only yours. But then when I came back after breaking it off, your mom said you didn’t want to talk to me, and I thought maybe you did what you did because you were drunk. That it was just a momentary lapse of judgement. So I left.”
Luhan turned around to face Sehun. “I thought you hated me.”
“I could never hate you, over the next week I called you so many times, your phone was not working, when I called your landline, you mom said you weren’t home. When
I came to see you, they wouldn’t let me inside, saying you didn’t want to see me.”
“I did all of that, because I thought you hated me. I was so mad at you.” Sehun shook his head at Luhan, smiling sadly.
“When you finally came to school, I thought that you didn’t want anything to do with me, so I stopped going after you. I thought you were happier that way. When my dad said, he’d found another job, I felt relieved. I thought that leaving you would mean forgetting you, so I left.”
Silence ensued for a few minutes before Sehun walked towards Luhan, when they were mere inches apart Sehun bent down, “But I couldn’t. I was in love with you. I still am.”
Luhan didn’t know what made him do it, but the next minute he was wrapping his arms around Sehun, crashing their lips together. Sehun’s arms went around the shorter boy, as he pulled him closer towards himself, their lips moulding perfectly with each other’s. Sehun’s lips were still as soft as he remembered, and he kissed Luhan gently but at the same time with so passion that made Luhan’s insides churn with desire. Sehun deepened the kiss by parting his mouth slightly and Luhan did the same. He tasted the chocolate from the bubble tea Sehun was having before and he smiled into the kiss, because this boy had not changed one bit. He was still the same boy Luhan had fallen in love with years ago.
Luhan only pulled himself away from Sehun’s addicting kisses to whisper, “I love you too.”
“You look like a newly married couple who just got back from their honeymoon, which is funny because last week you looked like married couple who were having a serious fight.”
“Your descriptions never fail to amaze me Minseok.” Luhan replied, taking his eyes off Sehun for a few seconds to reply to his best friend. Luhan smiled warmly at Minseok, before turning back to Sehun and then proceeding to shower the boy with kisses
“Urghh. Yixing, I hate you for stopping me, stopping this boy from stopping Luhan.”
Yixing glanced up at Minseok, his mouth quirking up.“What?”
“Never mind.” Minseok says, as he goes back to picking his food, but not before smiling at the disgusting public display of affection in front of him.
