In Your Sleep Dream Us Home (McKay/Sheppard, PG-13)

For pushkin666: John/Rodney, Gypsies (although the gypsies are very, very implied here)

"-and you'd think the Ancients would have thought of that. Then again, between the plague and the Wraith it's likely they were simply too exhausted to make the connection. And let's face it: they didn't have me. You should have seen it, an entire galaxy celebrating my genius. Well, except for the Wraith worshippers, of course. And the Replicators; I guess they don't care whether or not the Wraith are around. But everyone else is really, really grateful to me right now and Atlantis has made quite a few trading deals and new alliances. Now that the Wraith threat is gone, the SGC and IOA approved a significant number of purely scientific missions; high time, I say. Oh, remember P4X-669? We finally figured out that weather control system; or rather, I figured out that weather control system, although Radek insists he be credited as well, that ungrateful communist weasel."

"-pupils non-reactive, no response to external stimuli. Brain activity is minimal, unassisted breathing still not-"

~~~
"-believe it? Ronon laughed, of course; not like it was his shirt. I had Teyla kick his butt later, only cost me two bags of Jelly Beans. They, uh, they miss you. Ronon and Teyla, obviously, not the Jelly Beans. I guess we all do. Caldwell is a good enough military commander, surprisingly, but he isn't you. Well, of course he isn't, otherwise he'd be here and you'd be back home and I wouldn't have to spend my vacations in an Air Force hospital. I mean, yes, I have, on occasion, told you to shut up already, but this is ridiculous."
~~~

"Sheppard. John. Please wake up."

~~~
"-kind of ex-Goa'uld are you if you can't even do this one little thing?"
"It was a Tok'ra, Rodney, and I don't know why the healing device doesn't work on Colonel Sheppard."
"Then find out! Do you call yourself a scientist or-"
~~~

"-not know if you can hear me, John. There has been an accident that has rendered Rodney unable to travel for a while. He is well, although still 'a little banged up', I believe your saying goes. He asked me to tell you, had you been there, the energy relay would not have overloaded. I doubt that is so, but it certainly would have saved us a lot of worrying. Dr. Corman was not convinced that Rodney would survive the first two nights, but thankfully, she was wrong. Atlantis would not have dealt well with losing another-"

~~~
"Has there been any change at all?"
"No, sir."
"And?"
"Sir?"
"Think he'll ever be more than a vegetable?"
"Jack."
~~~

"-to say goodbye in private?"

"Just shut it down. That boy's always been more trouble than he was worth."

"… very well."

~~~
"Uh, Sheppard? In case you're wondering, you're in Canada. Toronto. I, uh, I had to save you from-"
~~~

"-miss Atlantis. I'd like to think that giving it up was worth it, but you're not even in there, are you? That stupid tribe fried your brain and killed you and I gave up my position and went to court for a dead man. Damn it, Sheppard! Sixteen months, and you couldn't so much as blink? What were you thinking anyway, letting them strap you to that chair in the first place? An hour, Sheppard, that's how close we were behind you! If you had bothered to wait just another hour we'd have gotten you out of there, but no, Lieutenant Colonel John Sheppard does not wait when there's an opportunity to put his life on the line for no reason at all! Well, that sucks, do you hear me? You suck, and I honestly don't know why I even-"

~~~
"-sorry, okay? I'm sorry that I didn't get to you in time, that I couldn't save you, just, please, wake up, okay? Just… please, or at least start breathing, I don't know how to do this, I can't-"
~~~

"-ney? Rodney, wake up."

"Whu? Sam?"

"Rodney, it's the gene. Dr. Zelenka worked out a way to-"

~~~
"-you hear me? Colonel Sheppard, if you can hear me, please blink."
~~~

"Look, with the way your physical therapy is progressing it will only be a few more months before we can go back to Atlantis. I mean, obviously you're still going to be discharged for medical reasons, but the IOA wants to hire you as a pilot. Well, and gene-carrier, although they didn't come out and admit as much. The point is, we can go back! What do you say?"

~~~
"Welcome home, John. We missed you very much."
"Yeah. Atlantis was boring without you. No one to run with."
"Excuse me, what am I? Chopped liver?"
"Wanna go for a run, McKay?"
"Uh… no."
~~~

"What? No, I didn't miss you. Well, perhaps a little bit, but only because Major Lorne had this habit of delegating his science duty to Lieutenant Brosinski and you're a lot easier on the eyes. Um. Not that I'm looking at you, I mean, I am, but not that way, because otherwise I would have noticed that you tend to sit with your legs splayed open disturbingly often, which I haven't - oh god, please don't hit mmmph-"

~~~
"-and you'd think the Ancients would have thought of that. Then again, you have to wonder about a race with apparently no interest in sex at all. And let's face it: these beds are crap."
~~~

"Yeah, you're welcome. Shut up."
