Well.

If today's Fuck Yeah, Fandom Flamingo wanted to polarise, they certainly achieved their goal. That's the most passive-aggressive thing I've ever seen there.

ETA: No, really, this bothers me. I spend hours, often days and weeks writing a story. Then, most of the time, I bug poor Kate (or half the internet, if she doesn't have time) to invest her ( Read more... )

Whoever submitted that is an ass, man. I specifically don't answer comments, because it makes me anxious. It's in my fucking disclaimer. Learn to read.

I am not entirely certain what's prompted this but the answering comments/not answering comments is as ridiculous an argument as ever. Receiving comments, both for the story itself and in response are grand. No lie.

But there is no implied return on investment here. Professionally, you write the book, people buy the book, and the kudos become dollars. The author does not have to contact every single person who bought the book and go thanks for giving me money and in return getting my book here's some extra personal gratitude on top!

No.

If people do in the fic community that's grand. I love people who do and I try to get there myself. But it is in no way required and to denigrate someone for not replying after already giving you the story? No. Fail.

Sorry you got hit with this.

This.

I know the comments discussion happens about once every two years at least and will probably never, ever die, but this got me in a week when I seem to have no defences against anything at all, so, yeah.

Which is not their fault and I should know better than to hop around on Tumblr, but assumptions like that just get to me. It's like saying "People aren't commenting on your story. Stop writing forever," completely ignoring the massive amount of lurkers or the fact that, yes, this one story might suck but that's no reason not to keep going, or that maybe everyone's just having the same shitty day as you.

I don't even know. Sorry for exploding like that.

You didn't explode, bb.

At least there were a fair amount of people disagreeing to the post?

This. So much. I have periods when I'm sick and tired of every form of social interaction and English is the most difficult language in the world and it takes me days to respond to a comment with a simple 'Thank you!' That doesn't mean I don't appreaciate each and every comment I get.

English is ridiculous. I love it; there are dozens of words that express things better than any German word could (though there are some where the reverse is true), but sometimes English just baffles me.

I don't comment expecting comments back! And I reply more because I enjoy it than because I expect most people are waiting for that "thank you so much! <3" in their inbox. Geez, comments aren't for scoring points about how nice you, the commenter, are.
