I may be the only person still watching SVU and who is also watching/rewatching Cold Case. I assume spoilers are no longer a concern, but just in case...
Danny Pino's character in SVU, Detective Nick Amaro, beats the snot out of Simon Wilkes when he catches Wilkes taking photographs of children in the final episode of the 15th Season.
What I didn't know until tonight is that Pino's character in Cold Case, Detective Scotty Valens, also beat the snot out of a suspected pedophile. That episode was The River. I tried to find out if the beating came back to haunt Valens, but other than the other members of his squad noticing his injured hands, and one asking if he beat that guy in the park (both occur in the next episode (Joseph)), it looks like the story line was dropped.
I wonder if Pino himself noticed the similarity and, if so, what he thought about it. Are the writers so out of new ideas that they're having to recycle plots from other shows?
As a serial-killer-and-pedophile-in-the-making, Simon Wilkes was as horrifying as the perp who kidnapped Oliva, but the rule of law is important and I don't want to watch SVU if it is going to be a bunch of people I used to like going around an enforcing their personal visions of justice.
