Uh........

Both are lj communities:

internetrapists

rape_an_ljer

Calling all concerned lj-ers. Help!!! This needs to be stopped. Can it be stopped? Will contacting the lj managers/monitors do anything?

Excuse me while I go throw up. Seriously, this is disturbing.

Yes, its a joke ecb1221 October 10 2005, 21:06:53 UTC
Albeit one in extremely bad taste. And not funny. Fortunatley bad taste isn't a crime. If it were I'd've been locked up for my clothes alone between 1996-1999.

Free speech cuts both ways. Didn't you recently post a partial apology for the Society to Cut Up Men? Besides, people who publicly fantasize about violence rarely commit it.

You live in one of the most karmicly toxic cities in the world. I'm sure there are more immediate and productive things to get worked up about.

Luv Ya

For the record, I wasn't apologizing for S.C.U.M., I was simply pointing out the existence of one woman's manifesto.

As far as I'm concerned, free speech is patriarchal illusion. The big bad boys club likes to cry FREE SPEECH when it is protecting their pornography and their funny little rape clubs but so easily dismiss it when it comes to political dissent or protests. Why are people arrested for expressing anti-war sentiments but not for expressing pro-rape sentiments???

"Besides, people who publicly fantasize about violence rarely commit it." Are you suggesting that we promote this kind of behavior? Well then, why don't we have massive public fantasy rape clubs so that no one will actually commit it??? Your logic is seriously flawed ( ... )

Likely, the LJ folk won't do a damn thing, depending on the user info - they tend to allow those groups to say that they're "jokes" - however, they are incitement to violence and illegal actions ... I'll read the information more at home - I really don't want that showing up on my work computer.

Let me know what you find, if anything. I don't know the inner-workings of lj community moderating or legal issues or anything like that. But you're right, they probably won't do shit! Damn.

Well, here's what isn't allowed on LJ, which is pretty limited and unclear. I think that if there is a law that this speech breaks (which I would argue is the incitement to violence thing - one of the clarified limitations to speech that the Court has already clarified).

There's also the limitations on " decency", which includes the Miller test for decency. It is particularly applicable because the community doesn't have moderated membership, therefore children can join.

Those are my best guesses. Good luck! If you need help or communities of people to spam them, you might wanna post this info in feminist_rage and/or feminist_action.

Cool! Thanks so much for the info. With the incitement of violence and decency arguments I'd say there is a good case to fight this. Maybe?? I'll do what I can. I can't tell if this is particularly pissing me off because it's on livejournal and is invading my little bubble of existence. I mean, I'm sure shit like this exists everywhere but now every time I sign on to lj it pisses me off that they are allowed to be a part of this community. Over reacting??? Maybe. But the way I look at it, a letter to the moderators is the least I can do, even if it doesn't change anything. Once I get my argument more formulated I'll post on those two communities.
Ok, end rant!
Thanks again.

this is beyond disturbing - especially the one with the pink kitty cat head. at least it's friends only. I'm pretty sure it falls under free speech, but it's worth emailing the moderators to see what their stance is. people have no sense of decency. one of my friends just showed me a fake infomercial pretending to sell a "rape mask" to guys who can't get their girlfriends to have sex with them. do you think humanity was always this ugly and we just didn't have the internet to remind us until now?

anyway, you live in a city that is "karmicly toxic" you should be channeling your energies into..I don't know, tracking down every crooked politician, throwing pies on Laura Bush's fur..what the hell does that mean anyway?

UGH!! I just want to know, when did rape become something to joke about?

The worst part is, I ran across these communities on the journal of Taylor Behl. Dateline thought it was a good idea to do a nationally televised story on her disappearance/murder/rape AND release her lj user name! Brilliant, don't you think? So there are literally over 4000 comments, most of which express some sentiment about her being a slut who deserved to get raped. It is sick and was a good reminder that humanity is horribly ugly and lacking any decency whatsoever.

Speaking of pies...the Anna Wintour picture you posted was classic! Maybe I should start channeling my energies into throwing pies at rapist bastards and those who think rape is a laughing matter.

That first one is awful. The second one doesn't make any sense. People are seriously fucked up.
