[If this is a rom-com, kill the director]

It's been a few weeks since we got into the full swing of rehearsals for my play that I wrote and am directing, Beyond the Curtain. A few posts back I did a questionare about all of the characters, and now I'm going to talk a little bit about the actors who I cast to play them.

Wes plays Ethan, and OMG I SWEAR HIS AUDITION WAS NOT THAT MONOTONE. I personally think he's just getting aggravated at me telling him that he's not acting, but boy, you've got to have some emotion in your voice! Honestly, he's not doing badly, he just needs some more work. And to be more confidant. The character is very confidant (not quite Kamina, but almost there) and Wes is one of the meekest guys I've ever met. He's being a deadpan snarker, but I just need him to be... less deadpan.

Landon plays Caleb, and eats sugar and crack for breakfast. Like, he is honestly the most ubsurdly energetic person I've ever met in my life. He's a fantastic actor, and he plays Caleb perfectly, but whenever he's not acting I want to yell "SIT DOWN, SHUT UP, AND STOP TALKING ABOUT YOUR DICK!" He's getting a little better now that we're more into rehearsals, and a lot of the ad-libs that are ending up being put into the script are his, so yay!~

Tina plays Leah, and is one of the nicest people on this earth. She's also class president. Only thing is, being the nicest person on the planet, she has very little experience with acting angry. As this character yells most of the show, you may wonder why I cast her? It's because, occasionally, she gets it exactly right. We're just trying to make her learn to yell.

Hayley plays Zoe, and she's also super mega nice. She's a pretty bubbly person in real life, but she pulls off the role of a deadpan snarker pretty darn amazingly. She's already at a good level, and I can tell that by the time the show comes, she'll be great.

Richard plays Andrew and.... oh Richard. You are so strange boy. He's the best physical and most dramatic actor in the school, but sometimes he tones it down for this part and it makes me want to scream. He has hilarious ad-libs and is great for the part, so with that one little problem to solve, he's still almost perfect for the part.

Michelle plays Sophie and- Honestly, Sophie was the least developed character in my head, but Michelle plays her a bit angry for a comedy. That's a directorial thing though, and she's very open to notes, so :)

Duong plays Logan. I never expected Logan to be played by the hyperactive, hilarious, and Asian Duong, but his audition had me laughing so hard my sides hurt. His whole performance kind of does, but he has ADD problems and needs to work on not smiling. He and Landon are part of my daily aggravation. (though, when we're not working, I think they're hysterical)

Ariel plays Olivia and, oh be still my beating heart, she is fantastic. She's really into the part, she loves the play, and plays Olivia amazingly. Problem is, she can't pronounce half of her lines, but We're working on it. A lot. I helped her with her lines in Midsummer (she was Titania) so I knew this was coming when I casted her, so I can't complain too much.

Overall, the play is going well. If you're wondering what my directing style is like? It's too nice pushover who might direct a little bit too much. None of the actors seem to mind (except maybe Wes) and Tina and Michelle are there for when I need someone to lay down the law. Good thing is, everyone seems to like the play, which is the best part.

Ms. Brown has said she's going to try to put me in contact with a publishing company to maybe publish my script. I sqeed.
