In the book "Law & Order: The Unofficial Companion" by Kevin Courrier and Susan Green, Dick Wolf is quoted on this topic. "An average hour-show (e.g. other series) costs about a million six. We're somewhere between a million and a half to two million an episode." The reason that it costs so much is because of location fees, because unlike its contemporary NYPD Blue, Law & Order is actually filmed in NYC, not on a soundstage in L.A. Hope this helped!
