Are all the Barge's ports of call so...interesting? Given what I've learnt of floods and the like, one would think the Admiral might steer us to clearer waters, as it were. Given the reports made during the weekend and its aftermath, I am quite relieved that I chose not to venture out.

Jennifer enjoyed herself, nevertheless. I allowed her to hunt ( Read more... )

In what sense?

In the sense that I've been around him enough to know he doesn't let alone when he's after something, and if you're his new roommate, then I can only imagine how much worse it will be for you.

I think that overall I would prefer a Warden who refuses to 'let alone' to one who divides his time between humiliating himself on a public forum and neglecting his Inmate.

He's a good guy from what I've seen. Reasonable but high strung and I guess a workaholic since that's most of what I've observed.

I think you got a great warden. I'm Dexter, by the way. Dexter Morgan.

It is a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Morgan. I am named D.

My thanks for your insight. I shall certainly keep that in mind and try not to be a further burden upon the doctor, especially as I suppose I shall be considered part of his 'work'.

Nice to meet you, D.

You're a pretty unconventional inmate if you're considering your warden's schedule, but... good on you.

Just because I have fallen foul of the Admiral's arbitrary categorisation of right and wrong, that hardly means I should automatically feel a need to run riot and make trouble for the man concerned for my welfare, should it?

I made a few suggestions. It was the name she preferred.

Oh. Well, it's good that you found a name she responds to.

So you're 'Count' D are you? Alright, I'll meet you at the CES in an hour, don't be late. Don't need to remind you I know where you live and are.

I shall see you then.

Yeah, I'm drowning in compliments about bedside manner.

McCoy spent most of the hour before hand flipping through D's file, brow steadily furrowing deeper with each page. By the time he was done it was almost time to go and McCoy knew two things- that this was certainly nothing like Pavi and, just like Pavi before, he hadn't the slightest idea where to start.

It seemed to always come down to empathy with his inmates, maybe understanding the people around them more than just objects for whatever means they needed. McCoy wasn't sure what that said about himself, or how the hell he could invoke some sort of empathy in a man- whatever he was- that wasn't human in the first place. Maybe empathy wasn't the right route at all.

He sighed as he walked down the halls, dropping the file off in his room before heading towards the CES. He couldn't make much judgment without meeting the 'Count' first, face set in only a mild scowl by the time he made it to the door.

D was already waiting there, resplendent in a long red robe and embroidered shawl; despite his normally rather laissez-faire attitude towards business hours and certain appointments, this was not a meeting he'd intended to be late to.

The doctor looked about as he'd expected: professional but rough around the edges in a way that tugged unhappily at recent memories. He had the mild antiseptic scent of many physicians that was inherently unpleasant, too. But D still smiled, a mask of warmth.

"Dr. McCoy." He bowed.

I'm doing a little better now, thank you. Fortunately, nothing happened to me during port.

I'm pleased to hear it. It is certainly an odd sort of 'romance' that is borne of nigh-unavoidable outside influences.
