Phoenix Wright, the human lie detector.

Character's Canon Abilities: Magatama: Phoenix's magatama, given to him by Maya and then spiritually empowered by Pearl, has the power to reveal when other characters are keeping important secrets. Though he may not have any idea what the secret is about, addressing them about it will cause him (and only him) to be able to physically see locks and chains 'on their heart' or rather about their person. Using the magatama, evidence and insight, it's possible for Phoenix to 'unlock' these secrets, with varying degrees of difficulty.
Conditional: If your character has no superhuman canon abilities, what dormant ability will you give them? Phoenix will have - apart from his attorney genius - the power to sniff out the truth. Whether that is on other people, or a particular bit of evidence, if it contradicts with something he's been told or is being spoken to about, then he will actually be able to sniff his way to the truth. Lies smell bad, though over time it may become clearer that different lies have different smells -- if he has some evidence that can prove that a lie is a lie, it will smell different to a lie he can't prove, for instance. Evidence smells good; it doesn't matter if said evidence is a dirty nappy, it will smell like something sweet and wonderful. This will only work when he's close to the evidence, and is affected by the movement of the wind, so if he's standing upwind of a smell he won't catch it. Since he can't smell people over the network, it won't affect him there.

If your character has a big canon secret that's likely to or has come up in conversation, or if a question Phoenix has asked should trigger his noticing locks and chains or an odd smell, I'd appreciate knowing about it. His new ability will grow over time, and mostly be used in his job, but if we get to logging and your character is blatantly lying to him, he's going to start picking up on that in his responses. Again, this item and ability work IN PERSON ONLY, and it's not like the answer is going to be magically whispered into his ear. Rather 'Did you kill X?' *insert locks and chains here* does not necessarily mean that your character killed, only that they're hiding something about that murder, or about their relationship with X, or about their reasons for lying etc.

If your character has dropped a piece of evidence and it needs/can be found by Phoenix let me know about that here too.
