Help!

My vacuum cleaner(s) are both in stages of disrepair or general suck-less-ness. I have an old Panasonic that I can't find belts for and a Hoover Widepath that the height adjustment is broken on, so it is stuck on the "hard floor" setting and a PITA to push on carpet. I don't think the Hoover is worth repairing as it was never that great anyway ( Read more... )

We have the Dyson Animal. I love it. I really want a Kirby, but $2000 is a little much for a vac when you have no pets. I actually could have done fine with the regular Dyson (since I have no pets), but I bet you'd love the Animal.

Thanks! I'll check it out. We had a Kirby when I was growing up--although I doubt it was the $2K model! I think Kirby's are great.

I bought the Dyson Animal. $430 on Ebay. It should arrive today! I'm seriously exicted about a damn vacuum.

Also, we are getting our carpets and air ducts cleaned today. Yippee.

I've heard great things about Dysons, but I'm not sure how great they are on stairs. One of my RL friends got one a year or so ago (they have a dog), and she loves it. I think there are a couple others that are comparable, but I'm not sure of brand names.

This is the newest Consumer Reports, from Feb 05. We have a Eureka, and all I can tell you about it is that it's blue. I love it, but Milla thinks it is evil. To be fair, she thinks that of all vacuums!

You're a doll Lan! I was planning a trip to the library for the CR or to get a subscription just for this!

Rachel actually likes the vacuum but she wants to push it--and it WON'T push (see above).

Thanks!

After reviewing the CR and also eopinions, I decided to go with the Dyson Animal 07. It is a little cheaper than the 14 which was reviewed in CR and actually gets better reviews on eopinions. Hopefully, I didn't just waste $430 bucks!

I think if I didn't have dogs, I would've chosen one of the models listed in the CR--they are much more reasonably priced.

Thanks for your help, oh Queen of Organization!
