My daughter cracks me up! She is loving, sweet, funny and oh so opinionated. She can go from wonderful to whiny in a split second too. Mostly though, she is a joy

I think we're pretty evenly matched. I started to write out a couple examples, but they're very similar to the things you've written, especially about clothes, cable TV and cars, although I don't think Ron has ever paid cash for a car. He bought "his" car (used at a good price from his great uncle) when we were dating through a credit union loan, which we paid off after we got married.
I don't think my spending choices would change if we had more income, although I think Ron's might. Our house might change, probably not much in size but more in terms of a slightly nicer neighborhood since right now we're in a neighborhood that's on the edge of what I call the "professional" neighborhood.
My parents divorced when I was small and I grew up with (not even close to enough) money constantly an issue. So I think I am a conflicted saver who wants luxuries! :)
Do you live in DC proper? My dad lives in Manassas and works in Crystal City.
Oh, I like this description very much: "a cheapskate who is almost arrogantly antimaterialistic (though he's a generous tipper)." I'm quite certain that I would get along very well with your fella.
My husband and I are almost evenly matched, except that I would say he is one notch above me in terms of the liking the niceties. These tend to be the bigger things, like our house. I love the house we have now, but he'd be very happy to trade up a tier. I can't even fathom why you would want more house than you could (theoretically) clean on your own.
I'll drop 100 bucks on my kids or for a new shirt for my husband without even thinking about it, but if I spend half that on myself, I will be in agony for days.
Your last sentence is me too. I have horrible buyers remorse if I buy stuff for me but I am more than happy to support Gymboree for my kids ;0 I do want to trade up a tier in the house dept. though and I'd be happy to have someone else clean it! See, I'm conflicted!
