This community seemed cool, and I've also got a question. How in the world does someone steal a layout? I mean, I understand stealing the background/other ideas, but how would they make it exactly the same? Please excuse my stupidity.

In some cases someone can right click on the site and and view the source (coding). Although it may be a bit difficult to pice together, they can still steal it.

Aside from viewing the source, as said in the above comment, one can steal a layout by simply browsing another person's username at the Style Browser. Although these paid styles are public, they may not actually be up for grabs.

You can't do it with a free account but yes, basically. But it's not just one 'box' per se.
