Today was a kickass day!

Jul 12, 2010 22:20

I woke up this morning as tired as any other given morning but I knew today was going to be fantastic and I was not disappointed.

I rocketted out of the house at 6:55 to make it down to the olympic chickens by 7:00. I got there at basically the same time as Sandy and Alex.

We motored along on our bikes having an array of discussions and enjoying the windstorm. The
Alma->Blanca hill, although nasty and headwindy, was defeated by all three of us and a hearty "fuck you hill!" was heard from at least one of us.

Once at UBC, we continued on to Wreck Beach, parked our bikes, and headed down the stairs.

The beach was deserted save for two older dudes with metal detectors. The wind was fierce and spraying sand everywhere so we headed down toward a sunny patch where the sand was wet and less likely to assault us. I had to tie my shoes to my backpack and my backpack to an abandoned beach chair to save them from blowing away but within a few minutes of arriving at the beach I was in the water enjoying the epic waves crashing into me!

I enjoyed the waves for a while ... ate my share of sea water ... body surfed a wave or seven ... and got knocked over a few times by the massive undertow before it was time to dry off with a stolen handtowel and head back up the hill.

A quick stop for coffee from the cute coffee girl, a short ride to my office, a quick shower in the basement of my building, and I was at work with a minute to spare!

... work day progressed like many work days. I felt super energized and was powerfully efficient. Yay for me.

After work, Sandy and I met up and rode home while enjoying the hot summer day and delightful breeze that this mornings windstorm had become.

At home, my lovely wife awaited me with tasty sushi and agedashi tofu from my favorite chushi restaurant having risen again like the overly quoted phoenix ... ashes ... blah blah blah. Mmmmmm ... soo good! Apparently our favorite waitress was there and recognized Lauren and had chatted with her for a bit. Looking forward to going there in person next week.

Ate the sushi and hurriedly packed Lauren up for her trip to Pender before we piled in Zach's car (thanks Zach!) and drove out to ferry.

As I got ready to leave, I noticed a couple that had missed the bus (by minutes ... the next one leaving in an hour) and were sitting by the side of the terminal with an assload of stuff. I wandered over from where I was to offer them a ride into town. They politely declined as they had just phoned a friend but were very happy to know that there were people who would offer that sort of thing. To reward me, this kickass day walked me past a $5 bill on my way to the car. Woot! Free $5!

The lights all lined up for me on the way home making me pleased ... so pleased that I quickly stripped down (mostly) and wandered to my computer with a tasty beer in hand!

Well ... I guess that pretty much describes it. Good times for me. :)

bike to work, good day, wreck beach, lauren
