Okay, so I don't usually do this, but this is an issue near and dear to me and this is getting very little no attention in the mainstream media ( Read more... )

Matt -

Just wondering if you can explain further how granting a fetus status as a person would outlaw birth control and criminalize women who have a miscarriage?

I don't see the connection.

this is just something I passed along which came from someone else (as noted at the top of the page).

I passed it along for a couple of reasons -

One, they had a fancy button to republish via LJ and I rather liked that!

Two, it seemed like something that needed to be passed around and discussed.

As for the specifics of the content, I made sure that the references back to the people who actually posted this was included as I cannot vouch for the details of every item.

That said, thinking about ways in which giving a fetus 'personhood' could effectively criminalize miscarriage seems like an easy exercise. If it could be shown that your actions contributed to your miscarriage, then it seems to follow that you could be help responsible for the death of the 'person' that resulted.
