A long time ago, they used to ship dry feces as fertilizer, but sometimes when stored low in the ship, it would get wet and rehydrate and release methane gases which would fill the ship. Then when the crewmen would light up, the gases would ignite and the ship would blow up! So on the shipping bags was written "Ship High In Transit". Hence the ( Read more... )

Haha...my senior year in high school, my environmental science teacher taught us that. I love it and shared it with many. It had to be shipped high in transit because it would be dry and water would get on it and cause it to create gasses which would build and when people would go down into there with lanterns, they would blow up. That was what I was taught.
